Another keeper attacked 08:45 - Feb 24 with 1688 views | Cheltenham_Blue | This needs to be taken much more seriously than it is. Points deductions or expulsion seems to be the the only way in a football world where clubs think nothing of paying £80m or £90m for a player, but fines are still in the tens of thousands.

I know there have been incidents over here, but Europe does seem to be behind on eradicating fan violence. I’ve never had any issue at an away game here, but if we ever make Europe again I’d have to think twice given experiences mates have had over on the continent.

We've had two away games this season where home fans have thrown things, Burton they hit Walton and seemed to get no follow up. We also had one of our own "fans" shove Walton at Charlton didn't we? It's a shame people think they can act this way but give the amount of CCTV and resources about now it should be much easier to punish them.

The fact that anyone who attacked a footballer would likely be prosecuted, and then the police/football clubs would be able to find out pretty easily that they weren't Plymouth fans anyway?!
Another keeper attacked on 12:28 - Feb 24 with 1143 views | blueasfook | It's only a matter of time before a player is killed or seriously injured. Seems to have become an increasing problem over the last few seasons. Hopefully we dont have to go back to the days of penning fans in.

Fair point. But say something happens on the final day of the season that could affect promotion/relegation. Establishing the facts and starting proceedings could drag on a while so what happens there? I just don’t think points deductions is the best approach.

It isn't a matter of time before a player is killed on the pitch by a fan what so ever. The incidences are completely unacceptable but it's some jump to go from throwing coins, low level assaults to murder. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

And there is no chance it will be required to pen in thousands of fans because of 1 rogue idiot. If this somehow did come to pass it would be a terrible idea. If you treat people like animals, they will behave like animals.

How? Figuring that fans would only reside locally?

Easy. If shown to hold a season ticket, or attended 5+ games in the current season. You always have to give a name and address now to buy a ticket anyway, so not hard to track.

You'd imagine the police would investigate wouldn't you? Especially as entering the field of play is an arrest-able offence in most European countries and beyond. Not hard for the league to wait for investigations/procecutions to conclude and then introduce retrospective sanctions.

It's not much of a step for someone to smuggle something other than coins into a ground. I've not been searched for years. Mate of mine was killed by one kick to the head, so its not that much of a leap at all.
