Ipswich CHAMPIONSHIP Ground Guide 23/24 - Part 1 21:24 - May 2 with 2207 views | unstableblue | THE PRIZE! We did it! we made it! You cannot undervalue this achievement, getting out of League One in the 22/23 season was a brutal task, which Town made a joy. With 96 points not being enough for automatic promotion, some crazy consistency was needed. Massive congratulations to the owners, manager, players, staff and of course the Blue Army for their backing. And now we get our reward - The Championship - and one of the biggest prizes is getting back to, in general, better and bigger stadiums! No more Forest Green Rovers at 5,140 capacity, and a miserly 1,000 away allocation. Although I am sure visitor tickets will remain like hen's teeth given the passion and commitment this team are creating. SO WHERE MIGHT WE BE GOING? Well with one more round of EFL games to go, it's still not clear who Town are pitting our momentum and Championship quality football (see Burnley away) against next season — where exactly will the massed blue hordes go a raiding. What with play-off battles at the top of the Championship and League One promotion still being hotly contested. Can Sunderland or West Brom depose Coventry or Millwall, and join Luton and Boro to fight it out for a Premier spot. With the state of Luton’s ‘stadium’ and ‘facilities’ already a source of great interest to the Premier League. Will Derby or Posh be joining Bolton, Barnsley and Sheff Wednesday to fight for the final promotion place? What Premiership parachuted big guns and stadia are coming down? Will it be Southampton, Forest and Everton? Are Leeds doomed despite the Big Fat Sam roll of the dice, or will West Ham get sucked in with their tough run-in. Will George Hirst’s Leicester struggle and call back our precious transfer target as they fall into the Championship? So where are Town definitely going, well Wikipedia have kindly put up this page including a handy map of stadia locations: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023%E2%80%9324_EFL_Championship THE AWAY STADIUM DETAILS Below are the confirmed teams with capacity (think we'll asking for bigger allocations in many cases). I’ve added their average attendance from this season and away allocations: Birmingham City - St Andrew's - 29,409 Average: 16,663; Away End — 3,000 (can be 4,500) Bristol City - Ashton Gate Stadium - 27,000 Average: 20,734; Away End — 4,200 Cardiff City - Cardiff City Stadium - 33,280 Average: 19,455; Away End — 1,800 Hull City - MKM Stadium - 25,586 Average: 17,973; Away End — 2,510 Norwich City - Carrow Road - 27,359 Average: 26,065; Away End — 2,500 Plymouth Argyle - Home Park - 17,900 Average: 15,579; Away End — 1,300 (can be 2,022) Preston North End — Deepdale - 23,404 Average: 16,065; Away End — 3,000 (can be 6,000) Queens Park Rangers - Loftus Road - 18,439 Average: 14,870; Away End — 1,800 (can be 2,500) Rotherham United - New York Stadium - 12,021 Average: 10,515; Away End — 2,500 Stoke City - bet365 Stadium - 30,089 Average: 20,570; Away End — 2,800 Swansea City - Swansea.com Stadium - 21,088 Average: 16,663; Away End — 2,000 Watford - Vicarage Road - 22,200 Average: 19,130; Away End — 2,200 Where are you most looking forward to going? Once the final list of away days is confirmed, I’ll try and update, adding some further background to the grounds. Can’t wait…

Goodison Park is a great shout... especially as its the last season they ever play there. I'm less enthused having just looked at the priority list. Don't think i'll be going to any away games. Not complaining. I think they've got the order spot on.

Make that next season's weekender, but staying in Manchester, done Blackpool so many times. Though if Everton go down, that'd be a good weekender

Did you mean the below J2?? I think this was just for the end of this season games. And I assume will be wiped clean for next? and will revert to Gold Season ticket holders if that returns? 'Priority for the above fixtures is being given to supporters who have been to at least 10 away league fixtures this season, up to and including last weekend’s match against Bolton. All of these supporters are ultimate or gold members, and tickets for those matches must have been purchased online through the Club's ticketing website or Planet Blue.'

Yeah, of course. It's a long old way to come and the ground is nothing different from any new concrete bowl. It's about 20-25 mins walk from the station or 30-35 from the City centre, so a bit out of the way. Not a huge amount of pubs around (the Harvester next door is away fan friendly). The way it's set up means that you need to try and fill a whole 2,000 away allocation to really get the atmosphere going. Anything less than 1,000 and they close the middle block which dampens the atmosphere a bit, but it can be ok still. The Swans fans off to the left as you look at the pitch make a bit of noise if they're in the mood. Swansea itself is worth a visit. The City centre and the route from the station to the ground are nothing to shout about (the '***'s a sh*thole and I want to go home' chant is actually accurate for once!). There some half decent bars in the city centre though for pre-match drinks; anything really from small scale local brewery bars to massive chains. There are plenty of places to eat as well. Depending on the time of year, the best sell is the local area. It's worth making a weekend of it. There's a new arena that's really nice and may have either music gig or shows on. Gower is very nice - a great place to bring a non-football family. Dump them on the beach for the day and then head into town for the footie. There's nice coastal path between the beaches too. The marina area in SA1 isn't the worst if you've only a few hours to kill - pleasant enough walking around and plenty of little bars and restaurants plus a couple of museums (free). It's about 30 mins walk from the ground, or a bus/taxi ride away. Or if people are more active you could stay overnight in Swansea and then head to the Brecon Beacons or Black Mountains on the Sunday. If the match is on a Tuesday night in January it could be a tough sell! [Post edited 3 May 2023 10:51]

Great stuff. And I’m sure selling the 2000 will be a formality. Long weekender ideal - always fancied exploring the surrounding areas and the Gower. Long way to go as you say. Many thanks.

No, I will be a silver member if they don't sell out of those before I buy one! I forgot about ST holders lol. I was thinking it went ultimate > gold > silver but obviously it's ultimate > gold > ST > silver which is entirely fair but ST holders slipped my mind Can't see any making it to silver apart from long midweek trips.

The football musuem at Deepdale was always worth a look round before our games there before they moved it to Manchester.
Ipswich CHAMPIONSHIP Ground Guide 23/24 - Part 1 on 11:32 - May 3 with 1255 views | Stenvict | I've missed going to all of those regular Championship stadiums, yet at the same time, the thought of going back to stadiums like Deepdale, St. Andrews, and MKM Stadium, doesn't excite me, it just brings back memories of dull football in front of average attendances. Hopefully this feel good factor continues and we sell out every away end, again.
