What’s the likelihood of McKenna getting a new deal? 00:17 - Jun 7 with 2131 views | joey_itfc | We saw last summer we were quick to tie down our better players in Burns/Woolfy, now McKenna is being linked with jobs elsewhere (to be expected) will we see him get a new deal?
What’s the likelihood of McKenna getting a new deal? on 08:09 - Jun 7 with 1757 views | BloomBlue | Would a new deal actually stop him moving to another team? If another club is interested in him and he wants to move to them I don't see what difference a new contract would make.
What’s the likelihood of McKenna getting a new deal? on 08:11 - Jun 7 with 1761 views | GavTWTD | His original deal may have included an automatic pay rise and extension on promotion. Former very likely, latter unlikely. I really hope he gives us at least one more successful season no matter who calls. I'm sure he's ambitious but he has time on his hands before he gets a big job.

It would increase the amount of compensation we might expect which would allow us to target a replacement who was also under contract.

This. Also puts off clubs who haven't got money to spend on compensation - although those clubs probably wouldn't be interesting KMK anyway. If/when Martin moves, Swansea won't be approaching Plymouth for Schumacher as he recently signed a long term contract and they don't want to pay compensation

What’s the likelihood of McKenna getting a new deal? on 09:21 - Jun 7 with 1409 views | xrayspecs | I am sure we will offer him a new deal, if only to protect ourselves. I would be surprised if he left us this summer, he only has 18m on his CV and imv is better off working at a club where he will be given the resources and time to build a successful team, than jump straight into a job where he needs to deliver in six months or face the sack. He has a long career ahead of him should he choose to stay in management, so can take his time. It is not as though there are not going to be managerial opportutnies higher up the pyramid next summer.

Surely not having a 'release clause' in the contract strengthens your hand though, just as it does with a player? Works more in favour of the manager than the club I'd say. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

With the best will in the world, even should ITFC be challenging for the top six of the Prem by then, managing Town could not be considered such a "big job" as ManU, City or Barcelona. Clubs which are looking (and likely) to make the final stages of the Champions League virtually every season, with the largest budgets globally, able to attract the very best players. Short of major changes to the football world, Ipswich are never going to be able to compete with that kind of status.

If there was an extension clause then I'm sure we would have heard about it by now. Pay rise and bonus I'm sure would have been included.
