Looks good there. It is/was his natural posistion untill switching to full back as Liverpool's midfield was stacked at the time. Rice/Bellingham/TAA would be a great trio given some time.

Personally I don’t think he’s a midfielder Against Malta I’d probably look ok

He just scored a screamer. Liverpool had a big upturn in form late season when Gomez played at RB and he played in midfield. No coincidence I think.

He didn't play in midfield. He played as this new "inverted" right back position.

Any of that England team could play midfield vs Malta and be fine. If he's doing it against Croatia, France, Spain or even someone like Scotland or Wales then that's when it becomes interesting.
