Some plain dumb luck too, their owner owns a chain of duty free shops and were battered by the pandemic. They just seemed to get into a death spiral last season with no money to strengthen and also forced to sell players they didn't want to. Not wholly incompetent.

Not wholly, but almost. Agree with King Power being hit big time, but they've made some really bad recruitment decision over the last 2 years, £55M on Patson Daka, Vestergaard, Soumare, and Ryan Bertrand, none of who have been starters. Then allowed contracts to run down. Its like they had Marcus Evans advising them.

So down to only £80m per year now!
Terrible ownership, didn't they turn down about £40m for Tielemans from Arsenal last summer but now left on a free!

They'll get 90 million coming in parachute payments spread over the next 3 seasons and will probably sell Maddison for 60 million, maybe even more. That's before you factor in the revenues they will generate within the Championship, which could be at least 20 million a season. So 200+ million over the next 3 years assuming they do get a good price for Maddison. Selling him will further reduce their wage bill too of course.

Not to mention other players they could get a tidy amount for should they wish to.

I don't see why their position is as perilous as some are making out, although in hindsight you're right they could've taken the money for Tielemans, but if he had have kept them up people would be saying it was a good decision.

They'll kick off this season with a very strong side.

I reckon they'll get a about £40m for maddison but will get good money for Barnes too so plenty coming in, but that will mean they've lost 10/11 players so a big rebuild needed,no manager either yet
If they go straight back up they'll be fine, years 2 & 3 could be tricky!
I think their biggest problem is that the son is not as committed as his dad was

Unfortunately for them, they've already mortgaged 3 years of their parachute payments to Macquires, banked it all last year and then they used to cover losses and for the infrastructure work they've undertaken.

They'll raise a lot of money from player trading and have some great prospects coming through their academy and should go straight back up, but its been a bit of a mess for a couple of years and they need to reset big time. They've missed the decisive decision making and leadership from Vichai

I wasn't aware they had a lot of debt. Changes the picture a little but as you say they have so many valuable assets that can make a huge dent in any hole they have. Barnes and Maddison are the obvious 2 who could fetch them close to 100 million combined I would think. Not to mention Justin, Castagne, Amartey, Faes, Dewsbury-Hall, Ndidi, Inhaenacho etc. Could sell half of them and still have a very strong side. I'll be very interested to see what they do this summer with their squad, I think they'll probably invest a bit too and Hirst is one that will be interesting for us. Hopefully they see a few million as more valuable than retaining him. I can see it dragging on as they perhaps wait to see what happens with the bigger ticket items they've got.

They should be good this season and I would be surprised if they don't bounce straight back up. They're much better than Norwich and Watford were coming down.

I've heard that the players absolutely hate it at Seagrave.

Got to say it's an impressive looking place but we didn't get the upgrade to the A46 junction near us that was promised as part of it.

Are their playing assets actually that valuable? Probably yes, but as we found out in 2002 moving players on in a fire sale doesn’t get you the best price. Also, the attitude of some of the players was just awful. Notably Maddison and Inheanacho who didn’t look like they wanted to know, until the last game anyway.

The centre half Faes looks a poor player to me. An absolute liability and when it comes to the rest, are they really good players in a poor team? I’m just asking the question because given Leicester’s 7th highest wage bill these people won’t be going anywhere unless the buying club matches the salaries.

I agree they’ll still have a strong side though, given the gap between PL and Championship and must be one of the favourites, despite their financial situation.

Finished top 10 in four of their last five seasons, so there's a lot of players that other teams will reckon they can hang their hat on as consistent Premier League performers - probably gets you an 8-figure fee for most of the players they'd consider selling.

I should think so.

Maddison
Barnes
Ndidi
Castagne
Iheanacho

All 25 / 26 years old Internationals with plenty of premier league experience. They won't be selling from a position of strength but they'll still get decent fees for that lot.
