Ashes / Cricket people 16:43 - Jun 2 with 2221 viewsLord_Lucan

I just realised I've double booked.

I have 4 tickets for day 5 on 20th June but I'm supposed to be in Scotland.

Scotland is quite important but not life threatening

What do people think are the chances of this going into 5 days?

....and while I have you all, if it doesn't go into 5 days do I get a refund?

I thought anything less than 10 overs bowled was a full day refund. That may have changed since I've been going though.

Can see several tests ending in 4 days this year, unless rain intervenes.

Yep, to refund if no play.

I'm not that bothered about the money, I'm more concerned that I cancel Scotland (which I should really go to as it's work) and the game doesn't go into 5 days anyway...

It's really the likelihood of it going to 5 days, that is the question

On balance, I'd say it was 70-30 in favour of it being over or nearly over by day 5. Long range weather forecast is very set fair too.

I do love cricket but it is such a variable when planning. Nothing like football where you know what time it will start and finish. I can recall driving up to Headingley for a test match v New Zealand and turning back halfway as it became pretty clear the rain was just not going to stop.

I’ve never been to an Ashes game and I’d love to go but should really put work first and I’ve sort of booked a flat for a week (although I haven’t paid for it yet)

I have a feeling Bossbeard might have a ticket for me on another day, I’ll have to ask.

I guess I should do the sensible and boring thing - and just hope I don’t miss much.

It gets worse.

I just checked Stub Hub.

I have a ticket for day one as well on 16th and I’ve got a bloody funeral to go to.

I’m sure uncle Roy would understand but I’m suppose to take Mother to it and it’s in BSE.

they never use to sell tickets for day 5 for precisely that reason, but I guess its all about the money these days.

unless the rain intervenes, I cant see any of those games making day 5

I don't think many games will go 5 days this series, its the first test so there maybe some nerves but Edgbaston usually has some big victories by 7/ 8 wickets so I'd be planning to be in Scotland!

Yes, Scotland is now nailed on.......

.........but Uncle Roys ashes are going to play second fiddle to Edgbaston's ashes.

I came up last night and stayed in Cannock as I have a place up here.

Yesterday I saw ABB and told him in no uncertain terms that he would miss the start as he was driving from Ipswich.

As it happens he got there in plenty of time but I nearly missed the start.

It’s so hot there that I’ve left and gone down the pub and I’m watching it from there.

Sounds like what I did at the Oval in 2012 when we played SA. Some cricket grounds are sun traps and it was 32 degrees (possibly more) and by 4pm, I couldn't cope anymore and just wanted a beer garden with a parasol with a cool lager and a roll up.

Depressing day cricket wise. We were bowling and we didn't take a single wicket. SA declared on something stupid like 613-2.

Ha.

I’ve just come in the pub and I’m overheating and I just want to sit down and chew the fat with a local.

So - I get my pint and I see an opening at a table, I say “Do you mind awfully if I sit here ~ and he replies “Yeah, feck off, my Mrs is coming up”

Oh well.

Narrator: It went to day five. And what a day’s play it’s set to be.
