This isn't a post about why haven't we signed any players yet, but I'm curious about the reason.

Do we think it's because we're after a better quality of player, so are prepared to wait? Or is it because we need to wait until after 30th June for FFP reasons?

It wouldn't surprise me if we stretched ourselves with the January signings.

Isn’t FFP different in the Championship to League 1 anyway?

It is but it's assessed over a continuous three-year period taking in the years in League One if you've been promoted. Basically, with the usual caveats for stuff which doesn't count like academies, you can make a loss of £39m over three years.

Yes, it's different but I struggle to understand the impact of promotion. In League One we could spend 60% of turnover on wages. In the CS we can lose up to £39M over 3 years.

So I think now we are in the CS, our losses in '21/'22, '22/'23 and '23/'24 will be accumulated and cannot exceed £39M (excluding funds spent on infrastructure, training facilities and academy)

I appreciate the meaning behind your first sentence, but it didn't half make Oi chuckle!

I think we're after a better quality of player but also have several options open to us, AND it wouldn't be a disaster for us to start the season with no / hardly any additions. This season aint promotion or bust.

I think Ashton said they were having meetings about our next possible transfers in March/April. I know we didn't achieve promotion until May but I would have thought we'd have at least 1 in the door before pre season begins.

It's not surprising when according to Ashton our own players didn't know if KM was going to be manager let alone new ones.

I said a while ago that I didn’t think we’ll do a lot of business. 3 or 4 maximum for me.

We have been very good since GC20/Ashton came in that over our period in L1 we bought well, and KMc has turned that group of good players in to a very good team - a Championship team - so just a couple of additions needed.

I’m sure we’ll be along in conversations, we just aren’t privy to them - all will come good in time I’m sure.

We're no longer the rich kid in the sweetshop so I think deals will be harder to get done. The pursuit of Simms is a good example. As some have commented, I don't think we needs a huge number of acquisitions, just improve the quality in certain areas e.g. one defender, one younger central midfield player & one striker. All of these should be players we intend to start regularly. I'm sure McKenna has a list of targets & I like the way some of these have seemed to come out of nowhere. Mid table next season will be a good achievement.

Contracts tend to run until 30th June. International transfer window opens 1st July. These dates are probably significant when trying to recruit from above.

We do understand that this is a computer game where you bid and buy whomever you want? Interest is expressed, negotiations take place with both willing and unwilling clubs, clubs need to plan their other acquisitions to fill the gap left and only when that whole chain is in place will the signings start. Of course there are probably other sales and purchases that are more straightforward much like buying a house with or without a chain except here you might have bids accepted, be allowed to meet the player only for them to chose the other buyer.
