Yes, it was the first week or even second week in August, 1984, . This game was in a really small town called Ørje, which is in eastern Norway at about the same level as Oslo, very near the Swedish border. I think there were three games in all, and possibly this was the last of the three. The other two were in Karlstad and Filipstad, (both in Sweden.). As I remember it, this game in Norway was against some kind of invitation XI, - some famous just-retired players and the best players from the local area. The teams in Karlstad and Filipstad were also far from being elite Swedish teams. It was certainly a very different agenda from today, to be playing such teams as late as August. The game in Karlstad was really relaxed, - I remember Romeo Zondervan sitting on the bench (which was a proper bench) with his back to the game, chatting to the pretty girls in the crowd. My question if anyone in TWTD was there is a genuine one. I think there were. about eight Town fans there in all. I hitch-hiked up there, after getting the ferry to Esbjerg I think, but I think the other fans may have come in a couple of cars. There was a river alongside the right-hand side of the pitch, which formed a natural boundary. We joked about swimming across it to save the admission fee (which wasn't much). I'm pretty sure we didn't, although I do have a photo of one Town fan with no clothes on, so I'm sure we had a dip in the river even if we didn't actually cross it with our clothes in bags, as was suggested for a while. I'm sure we did a mid-season tour early in the 85/86 season, I think? Just checked, that Bahrain was February 1986 and Alan Sunderland and Osman had left by then. So I'm guessing the Freisland 84 tournament. [Post edited 9 Jul 2023 16:05]

Must've been a harsh winter over here so we made an escape. Looking at the fixtures, we played West Ham in a second replay in the FA Cup (which I remember was bloody cold and an orange ball was used) on 6 Feb. Our next game was on 8 March against Forest in the league. | |
