Cross bar challenge Chaplin edition 23:58 - Aug 6 with 1707 views | Coastalblue | Not seen much mention of Chaplin hitting the bar amongst all the other excitement but what a goal that would have been and shows somebody who is filled with confidence at the moment. We really could have had 3 or 4 today despite the amount of possession Sunderland had and they looked very light up front.

Looked a penalty all day long for me. That was one heck of an effort from Chaplin.

Wasn't it after that when Soccer A.M. introduced the crossbar challenge?

A ridiculous decision. I don’t think anyone in the stadium could’ve complained if that was given yet for some inexplicable reason the ref decided not to give it. I can understand McKenna’s frustrations and frankly I would want an answer. I don’t understand what he thinks he’s seen, it can’t have been Ballard getting the ball.

The only thing I can think of is the ref thought the ball bounced high and hirst had mistimed his run up and flung himself to try and make contact with the ball and in doing so fell over himself. That's the only reason. I don't think that happened but I think that was the refs view of it.
