We do look a bit lucky from those highlights

Hladky had them all covered

Are we slightly underestimating Town's performance today? on 19:12 - Aug 19 with 2715 viewsunstableblue

Yes we rode our luck in two key moments... the double post and the unbelievable miss.

Yes there was the long distance punt, and another chance when their powerful striker ran through both Wold and Clarke, but both were well saved by the excellent Hladky.

Yes our passing was seeing some very rare misplaced we're just not used to that under McKenna, and we had off days from Chaplin (in part), Burns (in part) and Broadhead.

But I thought Ainsworth had QPR fired up today, their press was far superior to Stoke's and they had a number of really good quality players.

Yet we still had 62% posession and 16 shots.. and in Hirst and Luongo clear cut chances, a penalty shout. And players like Davis, Luongo and Morsy bossed the game.

So yes not at our best.. but 'smash and grab' 'got away with one' is not how I see it.. we deserved to win, and yet we can play much better.

I doubt Leeds will match that QPR press on Saturday. Now THAT is going to be a BIG GAME.

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

I think you need to give a bit more credit to the attempted lob. That was very well executed and you see far more attempts like that fail miserably. But yes, Hladky was up to it. I didn’t see the match live, so can’t really comment on the rest. The stats suggest we largely controlled the game despite their apparent dominance in the Sky highlight reel.

I think as per my not and Ainsworth's press conference that we came across a fired up and good quality QPR today, yet we still won the battle on the pitch and deserved the I think the win.

We need another forward and defender with Championship pedigree to mix in with the group, that was evident today. The first half is as League One as we’ve looked so far and we by all accounts got away with it, but we won’t do against the likes of Leeds, Leicester, Southampton and even teams like West Brom and Norwich. I’d also loan in an experienced keeper just in case Hladky loses form although if he keeps this up Walton might have a job to get back in the team!

Agree with this (the guy looked up before he sent it over) and the previous comments. There was too much passing backwards today. One corner went straight to a defender who passed it back to Hladky! We suckered ourselves into trouble by too much of this back-passing. Clarke made a difference when he came on, has a bit more poke about him though he looked like he took a knock or a strain maybe on the Field encounter. Hutchinson still needs to learn game management.

Lucky? If you were to judge it from the highlights we took a right pasting and were lucky not to lose by a few.

Yet the stats and peoples comments don’t bear that out. Amazing what you can do with the telebox.

Is it just me or do others find Ainsworth a charmless, annoying berk? Strikes me as somebody who loves the smell of his own wind.

I’d love us to give QPR a right battering at home. Not because I dislike QPR - I don’t and have enjoyed many a memorable trip there good and bad. But just to see Ainsworth gnashing his teeth.

Had very decent chats with QPR fans on the tube and bumped into one of them afterwards who was really nice and complimentary. He doesn’t rate Ainsworth- I don’t think the hair and the clothes and the touch line stuff help him - but the fans are alright. I thought Ainsworth played us well.

Just seen the ITV highlights, we definitely rode our luck - any other day they could have scored 3 or 4 - but we all know luck evens inself out over the season, so I'm sure we'll suffer similar in time.

Poll: So what do we think will happen with MM and the Aston Villa job?

I don’t know a great deal about Ainsworth but I think he looks cool as Feck.

The highlights are very misleading. On another day we could have had three of four. Burns missed an absolute free header from three years out. Our finishing was pretty poor today.

Yes, the QPR fans are a good lot and always have been.

My first visit there was about 1976. We had a good team but that year so did they. A certain Stan Bowles, Dave Thomas, Francis, Gillard and co ripped us to bits. It was only 3-1 but could have been more.

Think you mean 3 yards out Glasgowblue. 3 years out is an incredible distance and I doubt Burns could score from that range! :)

About time Ipswich Town had that thing called luck. First time since 2000 and our 5th finish prem year I have been so excited to be a town fan. Early days but I haven’t felt this good about our club for nearly a quarter of a century.
