Pretty pleased with how perspective has been maintained on here 13:28 - Aug 29 with 1328 views | Asa | Although Twitter was, as always, quite spectacular over the weekend. In my youth when Town lost it was bloody annoying. It was discussed with mates and then that was it until the next match. Social media is genuinely mind-blowing though. Our first defeat in the league since January! Our first league defeat at home for close to a year. A defeat to a team that had signed a player in the previous 24 hours that cost more than our entire team. Their first scorer cost more than our club cost Gamechanger to purchase! Despite all that we had more possession, more shots and it was settled by a couple of defensive lapses on our part or attacking brilliance on theirs or a combination on both. Personally I'd love to see a quality striker in and a left sided centre back and I'd be pretty happy with that, reassessing at Christmas and building from there. Saturday was a very odd feeling. Every League One defeat felt like a hammer blow, firstly because we were miles off a promotion team and then because every defeat was crucial in a ridiculous promotion rate. Saturday was the most blasé I have been about a defeat for sometime. I don't expect us to go up. I don't' expect us to go down. I am just enjoying the club being back in every aspect and the future ahead of us. If we end up near the top I'll get totally carried away and invested, but for now I'm pretty happy we have a mid-table Championship squad that can overachieve with an outstanding manager and system and it should be a very fun year, signings or not. But there's significant evidence on social media that deserving something but being defeated by a newly relegated Premier League side with a front four that cost £80m is unacceptable lol. Amazing. If nothing else, it might be a much needed reality check to the delusional 10% of every fan base. We can only lose, over a combined three seasons, what Leeds paid for their first goalscorer! Whilst a bigger fish than some in the division, we can't compete off the bat with some teams in this division in the way some in League One couldn't live with us. It's going to take a while to develop Davis or Broadhead into £10m players that we can sell and then pick up a couple of £3m players that turn into £20m players. The chances of it happening in a season or so are just unrealistic. It's only McKenna's ability that gives us a hope in hell of really competing at the top end. But if we don't then so be it. All part of the building process. [Post edited 29 Aug 2023 15:33]

Pretty pleased with how perspective has been maintained on here on 14:04 - Aug 29 with 1214 views | ChampionsofInnsbruck | There was a gulf in quality between their forward players and our defenders and frankly, their forwards took their chances when we fluffed our lines on a few we should have scored. Had we scored that chance we had immediately after the first goal, we'd have won. We will certainly need better players in the future if we are to persist with the system we now have. To be honest, a few of the mistakes at the back were prevalent against Sunderland and QPR, we just went unpunished in those games. Stoke is the only game this season where we genuinely looked the outright better side, we were pretty equal with Sunderland and QPR, and Leeds are better than us, but credit to the guys for fighting to get it to 4-3 because it could have easily been a 4-0 job lets be frank. I don't think we are going to go up either, Leicester, Leeds, Southampton, Coventry, Norwich, and co all have much better sides than ours. We just need a season back in this league and look to improve next season. As we know with FFP and parachute payment clubs it's just a lottery out of which of the others might scrape it to go up. Some fans can get caught up in the hype of our players, which is fine, some even called Morsy a Premier League player over the weekend, but the reality is different. Who on our side has ever been promoted from the Championship before? A few have played in this league, but most of them have played their football in the third and fourth tiers. We need to be realistic. 11th would be fine, but so would 15th.

Amongst that 10% it seems was one of the esteemed Town podcasts (which some on here don't like but I don't mind) who were pleading with us to splash the cash and break our transfer record. Upon being told they were ignorant of FFP the aforementioned podcast host then said ok but we've only spent 3m of the 13m loss per season. I kid you not.

He's only been coming since the beginning of last season (after being wrenched away from the clutches of Manchester City glory hunting), so he's only seen us being successful. He was really disappointed at the final whistle so I asked him would he rather be watching games like this against teams like Leeds, or watching us smack Morecambe and Forest Green 4-0 every week. He said "this." We'll get there, eventually. Let's just enjoy the journey, ups and downs. [Post edited 29 Aug 2023 15:31]

How could it have been 4-0 when we already scored one and missed another sitter before they even got near our box? The Leeds game could have gone either way, they had the extra quality in attack that spending £80m on your front four gets you.

Yeah, that was as far from a 4-0 game as you'll ever see. There are certainly games where you can come away feeling outclassed like that but Saturday was never that. We penned them in during spells in the 2nd half. Even after our mad 10 minutes we had 2 or 3 chances ourselves in the first half.

Yep, if it has been 3-3 at half time it certainly wouldn't have been an unfair reflection on the first half as a whole. Always felt the next goal at 2-3 was crucial, think of we'd scored to equalize we'd have gone on to win, but they nabbed a fourth on the break just after our subs and that left us too much to do. Very narrow margins which we were on the wrong side of. To say it could have been 4-0 is ridiculous really.

Quite. There’s some right nonsense on here lately. 4 or 5-3 at HT wouldn’t have been unreasonable IF we’d have been as clinical as them. We certainly got into the positions to get at least a couple more but fluffed our lines. Having said that, they had the quality to score more if they hadn’t sat off us for most of the 2nd half. We really couldn’t deal with those front 4. I think the result was fair in the end, but it wasn’t a thrashing.
