Boro head to Hillsborough to face woeful Wednesday tomorrow night.
They're 6 games in and have lost 5, with only a draw giving them their single point.
Worryingly they've only scored 4.
Weds have conceded less than Boro.
Its a woeful start after a strong season for Carrick last time round.
Carrick underplayed that there was a crisis and performance would turn into points.
But I feel a loss would put him under a lot of pressure.

No going well for him this season is it. They obviously ended up quite well placed in 4th last season, but they didn’t finish well. Only 2 wins in their last 10. I haven’t seen them this season, so I’m not really sure what the problem is. Undoubtedly the pressure will be on though after fading away last season and then an awful start this. |  |

I though Duff was doing a half decent job at Barnsley, but he’s demolished Swansea - completely torn up everything that was good about them last year (which wasn’t a huge amount in fairness) and replaced it with kick and run schoolboy stuff.
If I was a betting man, I’d struggle to know which of these teams is going to win the sack race this season. ‘Boro are obviously in that race too, but I don’t know what their performances are like. Swansea’s and Wednesday’s are awful though. | |

I should imagine Duff already has a black mark against him with the fans by losing to Cardiff. I watched that on Saturday and you're right, they were terrible. Duff did well at Cheltenham and Barnsley but maybe he has gone beyond his ceiling. | |

Duff had a good record at Cheltenham and Barnsley. just as Hurst had a good record at Grimsby and Shrewsbury. In both cases, a mix of too much too soon and maybe underestimating the Championship. [Post edited 18 Sep 2023 22:26]

He has a very different style to Russell, Russell’s style is slower and movement to open up teams where Duff’s team tend to be high intensity and mix it up more. He had a slow start last year, think he’s a decent manager and I reckon he will get them moving soon once that players are more accustomed to his style. |  | | |

Yep, possibly a step too far for him. As pointofblue says, there are parallels with Hurst’s time here. I always thought Swansea were following our decline pattern under Evans and only one bad appointment away from relegation. I wish I’d put a few quid on it earlier - I bet the odds are rubbish now! | |

Sample size of one, but my Boro supporting mate seems to think he's not under as much pressure from their own fans as you might expect looking in from the outside.
He (my mate, not Carrick!) basically said there are two camps - those who go to the games and see what they are trying to do and the performances they are putting in and whilst not 'happy' are understanding but are asking questions, and those that don't go to the games - just see the results and are getting angry on the internet.
That being said, given how poor Wednesday have been under Xisco every time I've seen any of them, I'd say losing to them is enough to put any manager on a poor run under the spotlight.... |  | | |
