West Brom's home record 07:54 - Nov 26 with 1087 views | Dubtractor | Just saw on the BBC that they have 50 points at home in the last year (unsurprisingly the best in the Championship). They have also only let in one goal at home in the last 6 home games. Very clear that under Corberan they have made themselves a very tough nut to crack at the Hawthorns - so not too surprising that we struggled to make an impact. Their play off the ball reminded me a bit of Lincoln last year - almost impossible to break down at times, though with a very real threat at the other end (very much unlike Lincoln!). We often talk about our fitness levels, but I'd say West Brom were a level above on that front. We've seen a few teams play a really aggressive press against us early in games this season, but few manage to maintain it all game.

West Brom's home record on 08:10 - Nov 26 with 982 views | Herbivore | That early goal was key, it gave them something to defend and made our lives very hard. That said, the last half hour of the first half we were fairly well in control and managed to manufacture some good positions that we were uncharacteristically wasteful with. To then gift them a second after we'd started the second half on the front foot was a real killer and they were then just able to completely shut us down for the rest of the game. It was very effective from them but we did shoot ourselves in the foot by giving them the opportunities to play to their strengths. That said, we were always going to lose and despite the one game at a time mantra, the players are only human and would be aware of our ridiculous record run away from home and our run of scoring in every game. Maintaining those runs can create an extra bit of psychological pressure no matter how focused you are on taking each game at a time. We've generally handled that well but the runs ending isn't necessarily a bad thing and at least they were ended by a side who will likely end up on the top 6 this season and on a weekend where it's not been too costly in terms of maintaining the gap. Need a big response in the two home games now. If we can take 6 points this week then we'll be in a very strong position still.

The early goals conceded are getting beyond ridiculous. And you have to feel for the coaching staff. All that preparation in the training ground over the last two weeks and the players blow it in the first five minutes. McKenna gives a pre match and half time team talk and the game plan is fucuked within a few minutes of each. Even more frustrating for McKenna because as you said, we finished the first half in control and there was every possibility could get ourselves back into the game. I still think the defence is going through one of these spells we had last winter where we conceded poor goals. As I said in Ryory’s thread, wouldn’t be surprised to see Tuanzebe and Edmundson start in Wednesday.. think we also need to find a deputy for Morsy in January. We can’t continue to rely on him to be. 9 out if 10 every single week. When Morsy has an indifferent game, and yesterday was one of those, the team also has an indifferent game..

I'm not sure how Tuanzebe or Fridge would have made any difference with the goals we conceded yesterday though, and indeed Tuanzebe was on the pitch and at some fault for the early goal we conceded against Rotherham, as was Fridge for Plymouth's early goal. I don't think it's a simple case of changing the CBs, who have largely been very good this season, will suddenly solve everything. It's about concentration levels and decision making early in games, which has been poor a few times now and we seem to be being punished every time.
