... have counted for nothing.

So our defensive record is perhaps better than it looks.

A perfect example of how stats can be interpreted incorrectly :-)

Goal difference quite often counts for something come end of season…

I disagree. I think if you look back over historic final league tables, any club will have many more times where they have not finished equal on points with another club than when they have. The consequence of a single shot or a single decision in an entire season that gains or loses a point is more important than a 300 goal difference.

We’ve conceded 2+ goals quite often. You can’t keep doing that and relying on outscoring opposition.

Fair enough with the goal difference, but you don’t want to be looking at it come May thinking ‘We could have tightened up a bit when we were comfortable’.

You try telling a goalkeeper that a clean sheet doesn’t matter lol.

Well that's a different point. I'm not saying we should abandon defence thinking that we know we'll score more, I was just pointing out that there is nuance behind headline figures.

Yes but is it not also part of how we are set up at home. To create what we do and be so incisive and committing players forward it's kind of inevitable that goals will be conceded.

We generally are a bit more solid and less committed moving forward away from home which makes us defensively tighter.

Goals conceded from set plays can always be improved. Also i think it's a pretty common thing to concede goals late when comfortably ahead, its always happened and for all teams whatever level of football. Its more inevitable when the standard of teams are closer, it happened less in L1 because we basically strolled against teams last quarter of the season.
