Bidss for this striker shows we could afford Hutchinson 13:21 - Jun 19 with 2073 viewshunty21

If we can offer 20 million for him surely Hutchinson is in our grasp would rather him and a cheaper striker than a pint on unproven in English league

Or, lets just sign both

Proven international (and a striker) vs £20m+ for a kid with one season in the Championship under his belt, albeit a brilliant one.

I assume that's the conundrum here for Ashton even if we could afford both

What makes you think it’s one or the other?

Literally nobody knows what our budget is apart from those within the club.

We could certainly afford both and maybe a couple more at the same price, then we would have to rely on frees, loans, and cheap signings after that. It's a question of balance and I will trust KM and MA to make those calls.

I don't see any reason why we won't go for both! you dont pay 20m on a striker and not have any great players setting up chances and assists.
Maybe the plan is to keep the core of last year's starting 11 but with a smattering of 3 or 4 top players in certain positions, then a few freebies and cheaper options to boost the squad numbers

The sums and the risk and the stress of it all is enough to put me in a sweat - can't imagine what it's like handling this for the likes of Ashton and McKenna!

Don't think it will be either/or. I'd argue you are better off spending the bulk of your budget on say 4 real quality players and supplementing it with a couple of lower range fees, loans and frees than trying to spread it evenly across the 10 or so additions we will need.

The club have valuations for players and if Chelsea's is unrealistic for Omari then it won't happen until it reaches a level we think the deal is worth doing

Yep, if as expected, we spend circa 90-95m, it could look like this:

21m (Ioannidis)
15m Hutchinson
2x loans
3x freebies
4x £10m-£12m signings

= 11 players for £84m

Yeah. I'd expect us to spend a chunky fee on a CM and CB too. So, if it is Sheaf and Rodon/Greaves you are probably talking another £20-£25m there.

Yeah, sorry didn't mean either/or just the valuations of Omari might put us off. He appears to be carrying a Chelsea premium.
