I suspect maybe the contract length as Ipswich won't want a 33 yr old on a 4-5 year contract.

I think that last point … there won’t be a prem team in for him … is accurate. And key.

…one of the lower end Champions League teams, maybe Celtic, potentially one of those Eastern European sides that seem to always get into European competitions.
He’ll get a 3 year deal somewhere, when we were probably only offering a 1 year rolling type jobbie.
I expect this whole thing is a result of his agent and Ashton being as stubborn as each other and both refusing to budge.
Disappointing for us, he’s been a vital cog in the way we play.

I doubt that to be honest. It was offered way back in Jan when we had no idea where we would be. If we were still in the Champ, he'd be our no1 100%
