For those concerned at the fees we are paying 13:43 - Jul 9 with 2122 views | Asa | Appreciate it's unprecedented and a lot of stories of clubs spending recklessly. But this is Ashton, McKenna and Gamechanger. Hutchison, Greaves, Philogene and Delap could have crap seasons for us in a side that goes down comfortably and not one of them will lose any real value and be moving next summer for what we paid for them. Any kind of decent season and their value rockets by two or three times. Incredibly smart business and exactly how the likes of Brighton and Brentford have done things, albeit we are paying the English premium that other clubs will also be willing to pay us if it goes sour. I've said before we made any signings I think we'll be 12th to 14th and comfortable under McKenna. But if the worst comes to it, we've simply spent the money we generated through promotion that we recoup in full or largely in fees for players that will be just as in demand because they won't have become bad players overnight.

I guess it's easier to do d/d with local players about their character. It's exciting and scary at the same time. I think i'm more at ease with signing young english players than 28 year olds for the same fees.

I don't for one second think they haven't thought all that transfers through though.

I think it was always going to be that way until the scouting network is a bit more advanced. At the moment it seems we have very good connections in terms of player characters and work ethics and backgrounds. Only natural we have no idea yet which South American or Dutch players are suitable characters for us. Whether we stay up or not would imagine over the next few years we'll start to see that grow and more and more 'gems' from abroad being picked up. No doubt we already know of these players but have no way to determine who is going to fit the dressing room and who is going to throw toys out of the pram being rotated.

No obvious reasons why they won't be, but it isn't risk free for a club new to the league to spend big.
For those concerned at the fees we are paying on 13:57 - Jul 9 with 1924 views | Guthrum | I think we're actually being quite caredul. All these are players who, should we get relegated at the end of the season, are exactly the sort to get us promoted again immediately (backed by parachute money). But chiefly they're the kind of good prospects who would likely be making the step up to the Prem this season anyway.

I do hope that we get a little bit of Prem experience in somewhere as well. there's a bit of me that's a little nervous about trusting to much to Prem novice youngsters.

However, as I said yesterday, we have massive Prem experience at the top, in the person of McKenna. Done a lot of Prem-level Youth development, too.

I'd imagine there will be loans / free agents further into the summer to add that when it's clear what we've spent on fees, how many targets we secured and where the squad need depths. Much better to beat other clubs to our targets early on fee wise than to wait for the moving parts of their outgoings and having money to spend. Also gives us time to move on if we do miss out on them.

At some point we surely need to look at other markets? Obviously it’s worked very well so far to not shop elsewhere, but seems there must be some diamonds to unearth that we’re not bothering to even look at.

McK will be confident the players we're signing can cut it. Who's to disagree with him? These lads will have been on his radar for a number of years. You gotta trust him on this, and chill out and enjoy the show. And anyway, if it all goes tits up who gives a sh1t quite frankly. It's footy. Ups and downs. I'll still be supporting Towen come what may, long after McK is gone. Whatever league we find ourselves in. Doom mongers may say what if we go bust and get wound up... well that's a ridiculous attitude if you want to compete, and where football is going anyway, so let's enjoy it while we can. COYFB

I am more concerned about upsetting what we have with playing a team that knows how each other play. Evolution not revolution.

I'm not so concerned about that. We still have the core from last season. Spending a lot of money but not hiring that many people. I'm sure they've been carefully selected to easily integrate with the system McKenna has designed for the season ahead. Plus we're getting players early in the window, giving all possible time to train together, get to know each other, going on overseas camps, etc.
