Was tipped as our most promising ever academy prospect…. on 13:33 - Aug 12 with 1507 views | J2BLUE | Assume he's now set up for life and at 22 he could find his way back to the Prem in the next few years.

I doubt he would have got worse for his stint there. Going to play in Spain where it might (might not) work out for him. Good luck to him.

Was tipped as our most promising ever academy prospect…. on 13:41 - Aug 12 with 1339 views | HighgateBlue | Good luck to him indeed, and who knows how things will turn out for him. Full marks to him for going somewhere new and trying his luck. A reference from Pep cannot have hurt. It's easy to lament the loss of a supposed ITFC wunderkind all over again when they are let go by their superclub purchasers, but there are plenty of 'next big things' who stayed with Town for whatever reason, and things haven't quite caught light either. Each example is different, but Owen Garvan was one who was tipped for greatness (I remember David Pleat of all people singling him out in the papers as one of English football's great youngsters), and he played half of his career games for Town before moving on to Palace once he was into his 20s. Hundreds of Championship appearances and a couple in the prem, so no shabby career at all, but he had a fair enough crack at the whip here and at Palace. Like with so many sports, the greatest youngsters don't always become the greatest fully fledged players, and that's not always anyone's fault. (I'm not assuming the OP has any particular view, just thinking aloud).

The problem with the academy is that a club like Ipswich will always loose its better players young… a couple of decades ago the likes of Darren Bent would go to a ‘big club’ like Charlton….. Ambrose went in a fire sale to Newcastle….. Titus also went to Geordieland….. latterly the likes of Wickham went to Sunderland before the trend of noticeably gifted players are lifted whilst schoolboys in recent years. There used to be a gap in the team for the Mickey Stockwells of this world - but they’re just discarded nowadays.
