I know it's part and parcel of football 09:47 - Aug 22 with 1910 views | FrimleyBlue | And players do get an incredibly high salary, but is it just me that thinks this shouldn't be allowed where clubs can forcibly make players train away from the first team whilst under contract. Surely, as they were signed to play first team football this includes training with it and being available for selection.. Almost feels like the PFA need to get involved in cases like this as maybe it'll stop clubs like chelsea signing 40 players.

I just think there should be max squad number. Obviously you don't want to make things hard for the masher but the way Chelsea run things I dunno it just doesn't seem right.

Yup - I'd have a hard cap on the amount of players you can own at one time. This would have to be higher than the number of players you can register to account for long term injuries etc and a few loans out but something like 35 senior players. I'd also bring in hard caps at the academy age groups to stop some clubs hoarding talent.

Sterling's agent has made it clear he's under contract for another three years. No one is going to pay him what he's on at Chelsea so they may need to subsidise his wages for the next three years. Could cost them £15m-£30m if he really is on £300k a week as can't see who it going to get near that. Unless he goes to Saudi which would be a shame really.

There already is - the PL squad limit is 25. So Chelsea will have to sell or loan plenty of players or leave them kicking their heels with the youths. It's hard to feel too sorry for Raheem Sterling when he's still going to be paid £300,000 a week.

I meant more that there should be a maximum number of players that you can own/have under contract at one point. Some of their players won't be loaned or sold and will end up stalling their careers with no opportunity to play this season. Maybe not an issue if you're on £300k per week and have a achieved a lot but it does lead to talent hoarding.

That's more of a registered squad limit though not how many players contracted to a club at any one time, which I think needs to be capped,

I have sympathy for the likes of Chilwell and Sterling as they signed when Chelsea were/appeared to be competently run - from memory the latter was one of Boehy's first signings, before it became clear he just wanted to sign every player under 23. Anyone who has signed since it was obvious how badly the club is structured? No sympathy at all. If their career stalls it can hardly be said they weren't warned. I read on the BBC one pundit - Carragher maybe - question why anyone would sign for Chelsea right now.

I know it's part and parcel of football on 13:29 - Aug 22 with 997 views | rickw | The more I read about Chelsea the more I think someone at the club is trying to sabotage them! Yesterday I read when Bohely took over he fired half the medical team, and last season they had loads of injuries, and this constant stream of players in and out...
