First 7 games 11:11 - Aug 6 with 3125 viewsIPSWICHFANITFC

I feel like a lot of focus and talk is about the Liverpool and City games, but the following 5 after that are where we will be targeting our first points realistically.

Fulham look strong this pre season and whilst on paper I'm sure it's one we're all looking at for our first points, but I think they'll have too much for us.

Brighton, Southampton, Villa and West Ham will all be tough games too.

Out of 21 points available, I see about 5 points max.

I go from wilful optimism to wondering where the hell our points are coming from. It's an hourly struggle.

I'll feel more comfortable when some targets come through the door. We seem crazy light on numbers.

Pre-season usually means sod all.

To stay up we need to pick up points at home. FUlham at home is definitely one we need to be looking to win.

Really we have no clue how good other teams are (bar the obvious) nor how we will fair.

I have to admit, I go from being confident, to then thinking "we could get thrashed", so we just need to see!

I can see us getting points out of Brighton, beating southampton, and getting something out of West Ham. Think we will lose to Fulham(wouldn't be surprised if they are pushing for Europe this year) and Villa.

I Can see mckenna playing more defensive cos he knows if we play like we did previously we will get opend up and be gaps open in the back ..we will probably play a bit gung ho against the Southamptons of this world. It will be a chastening experience..the main thing is we don't panic if we are getting battered week in week out..most teams won't have to be at 70 percent to beat us as they have quality players to score .I think realistically to be able salvage something from a game .set pieces will be our go to ..

I do worry that after Liverpool and City, we could be like a boxer on the ropes.
It could be a very brutal baptism and suddenly we’re looking at Fulham thinking “we need something”, anything.
It could be a case of roll with the punches, keep trusting the process and believe in our ability when the beatable sides are in front of us.

Realistic view to be fair.

Maybe I'm being totally unrealistic but I can see us surprising people by narrowly beating or drawing against Liverpool. And I can see Hutchinson scoring and having a barnstorming game and Lineker and co raving about him on Match of the Day.

Less optimistic about Man City away where I think we will get battered. But on our day at home we should give most teams a tough game and you would like to think that the players will be seriously pumped up for the first game of the season.

I honestly have no idea how we'll fare against any of these teams, but I am going to enjoy the ride and trust that McKenna and co will make us at least competitive.

We are light but in a way for our first two, it doesn't matter if we had everyone in or players yet to come through the door, our chances are still slim.

We just have to hope we can get that quality through the door.

Brighton and Southampton were the two I was looking at and thinking we could get our first points. Brighton will still be a decent side though, got two frightening wingers in Mitoma and Minteh but losing Gross will be a tough one to replace in their midfield.

Southampton is a must win - though they'll be saying the same.

West Ham have signed well this window. German lad will do well up top and if Bowen, Kudus and Paqueta are fit, they'll have too much quality for us.

The fans and players will be up for it, but once that dies down after 10mins because Liverpool have taken control of the ball and muted the crowd a bit by taking the sting out of the game, I think it'll be a long afternoon as we realise the quality that these top sides have over the rest of the prem in general, not just us.

A tough introduction to the prem, but it is what it is and nothing is impossible.

I'm thinking 8-9 points from those games. Think we'll be stronger after that with more bodies through the door and settled.

14 points minimum to have a realistic chance at top 4. In reality 6-8 and we will probably have had a decent start. Less and we know the task starts getting more and more challenging as each month goes by. We get what we get out of the first two, then we have to learn fast, deliver small amounts of points consistently!

3 games to go in this block until the international break. It’s probably going about as expected. It would be good to pick up minimum 2 points from next 3 which would be only 4 points from 7 games, ideally plenty more coming. From where we stand now, 3 or more points in next 3 consolidates a decent return from our first 2.5 months back in the PL.l in light of the games and the away/home balance.

2 from the next 3 would be 4 points from 7.

How right you are! I put it down to celebrating Brighton like a win! It’s going to be hard graft accumulation points isn’t it! Corrected!
