There used to be a lot of talk back in the day about how some did not take to Scowie.

"I’ve got a foot and a half in Palace’s camp and half a foot in Ipswich’s"

This quote from the news article shows some of the reason why for me. He's a Bury St Edmunds boy brought through the academy around the halcyon days, and yet he's a self confessed Man Utd fan who now feels more of an affinity for Palace. He's just never really felt like one of us really.

Sounds like you are trying to justify, post hoc, the pond life who gave him grief instead of supporting the team.

He literally works for Palace

I've never given him grief or actually experienced what he received in person. but do think that the point I'm raising may have been a reason people didn't appreciate him.

And your point is? He's a scout for Palace, they're hardly going to terminate him if he says otherwise are they.

How can it be? He was not involved with Palace at the time...

They could quite easily cut back on budgets etc if they get relegated so it's much more important for him that they stay up rather than we stay up.

He speaks so glowingly about Ipswich now, and is here very often - if he wasn't a Palace employee he'd have 2 feet in the Ipswich camp!

He played 3 years for palace, has worked for an additional 6 years and is currently employed by them...and yet you are surprised he has an affinity towards them - perplexing.

It was an overall point about his attitude towards Town, not exclusively revolving around that comment.

Fair point, I'm just not so sure he would be.

Think you're reading rather too much into it, it was a bit of a jokey comeback and me suggesting he has a foot in both camps. He works for Palace, so his affinity while working for them is obviously going to be more when the two teams meet. Don't really think you can question his Ipswich-ness, for want of a better word.

Wouldn’t be a surprise if he rejoined to lead our European scouting if we’re able to stay up. He has extensive knowledge of France football and would be a great asset for us.

Is Ipswich-ness near Orford-ness?

Just because someone is born or lives in a certain area it doesn’t mean that they have a special bond with that area. And yet the same person could well move, be there for five minutes and it’ll feel much more like home than their birthplace etc.

The same bell ends who booed him were probably the same ones who booed Matt Richards and sung that terrible song about Mick.

Isn't that kind of my point? That he didn't have that connection.
