Disgrace of a first day pitch. No pace at all, every other ball is a grubber.

Bizarre decision to reuse the same pitch which was so dead in the first test.

Yeah boring.

Be interesting to see how we deal with their 9 spinners.

Given how 'dead' it is, they probably took the lazy approach of thinking 'Well, it will probably last another 5 days'. However, the ball is barely climbing knee height on some deliveries.

Pakistan cricket is in a shambolic state. They are going the same way as the West Indies post late 90s, early 2000s. That series defeat to Bangladesh (even allowing for them not quite being the minnows they were) was massive alarm bells.

Like the Windies, such a shame as they were absolute box office in the days of Imran, Wasim, Waqar, Miandad etc.

It's in the interests of the game to have all the major nations at the top of their game otherwise, what the hell is the point of it?

In fairness, why bother when there are literally no spectators in 4/5 of the ground.

Yeah. There is that too.

Not sustainable.

They do it in Australia, it's fine, always think we focus way too much on these things, just play the game, not every session of test cricket is meant to be Bazball bonanza.

The thinking behind using the same pitch was their worry that the other pitch prepared would produce a game / conditions idential to the first.

The hope was that the deterioration in the pitch would leave something for the spinners with all the cracks about.

But, it is dreadful

If we are getting grubbers on day one, it could be appalling by day 3.

Think they said the other day that it was 500 rupee for a ticket, which equates to about £1.30.

Not sure if that is considered a lot over there?
I think they had a free ticket day last test and even then it didnt fill.

No spin to speak of either.

I wonder whether we should try a part time seamer bowling dibbly dobblies. Best bet for wickets is balls that are straight and just die.

Awful pitch however the score does suggest a much more even contest between bat & ball which is a positive.

To b e fair to Pakistan, this match is already infinitely more interesting than the first test. Challenges batting due to wearing pitch, yes, but at least its doing something. Probably a good decision, as a new pitch would probably have been very similar to test one.

Only question is how quickly it deteriorates, and can England bat well enough to earn a first inning lead, that hopefully means that any 4th innings chase is small enough to not be too scary.

I disagree completely that the pitch was doing nothing. Look at the Pakistan 2nd innings in the first test.

Playing on the same pitch for the 2nd test was a synical try to get a "result" pitch and that would very much favour the home side.
This is what happened.

They only needed 2 bowlers during the whole of the England second innings because it was played on the 9th day on that surface.
It was not "cricket" to manipulate the playing conditions so.
Having said that the English team were not at their best

yeah, that really suprised me! I'd have thought the stadiums would be close to full...

Anyone know why they were so empty?? is there a reason? or just poor ticket sales?
