I think the goal would have happened even if it was Burgess as he too is left footed.
But I was surprised that KM did the swap in a 6 pointer tbh. Esp when we also introduced clarke back into the lineup with davis which in the past had caused greaves pain as he ended up trying to help davis to cover for clarie who was awol up the pitch. |  |

Possibly. I know greaves was coming back in. And he should he is a better baller. But tonight just didn't feel like the right night. | |

Agree completely.
Not the only reason for the result but there was a lot of change and upheaval tonight.
Missing Tuanzebe already and having made the more understandable decision to play Clarke and Burns over Szmodics and Chaplin*, it seemed odd to add another change on top of that and take out a defender who has been pretty solid recently.
Burgess and O'Shea have built a good partnership and I think Burgess is actually substantially a better ball player than Greaves, meaning he has a better relationship with Davis as you say. Sorry to say I thought Greaves was really poor tonight and the goal topped off the performance for him. Even the small things like when passing back to Muric, he would over hit the pass or pass it to his wrong foot - can you put that down to coming back from injury?

you have to be joking? I think Burgess is good defensively but his distribution has been poor in the last few games. Greaves offers more in terms of distribution and mobility than Burgess. |  | | |

Burgess has started 6 games this season and we've won 5 points when he's been in the starting team and should have got something from the Brentford game.
Greaves has started 8 games this season and we have 4 points from when he's been in the starting lineup. He's also had to face Man City before their flump and Liverpool who have been excellent all season.
I think unless Burgess was injured, then he should have been starting. Especially as we were picking up points and the back line was starting to look somewhat settled before Tuanzebe's injury.
I don't think Greaves' injury has helped him much. Bit of a stop start to the season. |  | | |

Greaves has a lot more attributes which make him the better defender in the long run certainly
I don't disagree that Burgess has a better understanding with Davis particularly at the moment, they have played together for two years successfully so not a surprise really
Greaves was going to come back at some stage and you can understand why we want him back in the side but you do have to feel for Burgess who hasn't really done anything wrong to be dropped
It may take Greaves a few games to get back up to speed and develop that understanding with O'Shea who is really starting to look a good player now |  |
