I thought that Mick Mills made a really interesting point on the radio after the game. He was basically saying that with Lief playing so far forward, Burge effectively plays as a left back to cover the space. This means O'Shea and Clarke both shuffle across leaving huge gaps for the opposition to exploit. I realise that Clarke has limitations but this often leaves him exposed with too much to do.

Mills was suggesting we should go to 3 centre halves, O'Shea, Greaves and Burge. It made a lot of sense to me. Interested in others thoughts

Yeah. Completely correct. Just hope KM has the bravery to rearrange the formation. And to drop Muric.

This is hardly a revelation, it's fairly obvious. We probably should be playing with a 3 against the better teams, absolutely agree and potentially Taylor playing in the attacking midfield role would solidify us further.

Leif was unbelievably poor today, possibly the worst outfield player on the pitch. 4 terrible games he's had for us, his debut, Leeds x2 and then today against the team he supports. He seems to get a bit overwhelmed with those kind of occasions. Obviously he's a fantastic player, 99% of the time, just making a comment on those 4 games.

A right wing back is someone I would look to target in January. It would provide a better balance in our play, instead of relying so heavily on Davis on the left, we become too predictable.

Poll: Where are we going to finish?

As I said on another thread, I think MM actually said something a bit more pointed than that. Asked if Town need to buy a new striker, he said no, just hope that Hirst and Delap are fit, as adding a third striker with under half a season left will leave someone too far from the starting XI. And then he quickly moved on to say that what's really needed is another central midfielder ...and an upgrade in the left back position. He then seemed to 'soften' this by talking about the formation, but to my mind he certainly gave the impression that he thinks Leif is a liability and has been found out.

I think it too speaks volumes that davis runs his absolute bullocks off yet never gets subbed for townsend. We sign a back up left back but he never seems like he's comfortable using him.

a niche perspective

I mentioned it in another thread. I don’t always agree with Mick M (I know best, anyone would think he’d made about a million appearances and captained England. What does he know?) but I certainly did with all his comments yesterday.

Three at the back, our midfield weakness and the interesting one about striker signing not being a priority.

His views are worth listening to if they’re available anywhere. His point on CHs, the gaps at the back and a three with O’Shea, Greaves and Burgess sounded worth a go to me.

I can’t see how the club can realistically think of hirst as a long term Option unfortunately, not when he spends 75% of the time injured, it nearly cost us last season, and it’s definitely going to cost us this season. There’s just no room for sentiment at this level.
