I really like him. Sure, he's a bit selfish & wants to score a screamer, even with better place teammates in front of him, but you need a certain level of arrogance to be a top class forward.
What he really has in abundance is drive, determination & fight in him; these are qualities that we have been lacking in the forward area, apart from Delap, all season. As I have said in a few other threads over the last few weeks, we don't have many players that you'd expect to go into a 50:50 challenge, and come away with the ball; but Enciso is one of those players we used to say would kick his own granny in order to win the ball. We need that kind of player.
That's why seeing him limp off in tears on Saturday was such a sad sight. You could see him testing his leg for a couple of minutes before he went down; he knew it wasn't right, but hoped he could walk it off. He was out for most of last season with a torn meniscus to his left knee, & one would suspect from his distraught reaction that he fears a reoccurrence.
I really hope it's not that bad & that he'll be back fit fairly quickly, as he can have a really positive influence on the rest of our season. His Brighton contract is up in the summer of next year & it seems he has refused to consider an extension; I'd love if we tried to sign him permanently if we stay up, given the usual caveats on longterm medicals.

Modern day Reuser. He was all about the glory, but we loved him dearly

Poll: How many home games do you get to a season

The bigger issue is we have Delap, Enciso, Hutchinson, and now Philogene all holding onto the ball too long and not playing the ball to players in better positions to have, on occasion, pretty weak attempts at goal for themselves.

Delap gets away with it, because frankly, he's a far better player, however, the team is visibly frustrated when others get the ball, and dribble around themselves almost to do nothing with it, and it happens far too frequently every game, we simply don't have enough opportunities to waste.

We need to use the ball a lot better.

I think at times this season we have been reluctant to shoot so I don't mind him having pot shots. Much like chappers does from all angles. Bravo.

Praying he’s not out for the season; he offers something different to our other attackers.

That's not quite true. The criticism of most of our forwards before Ensico's arrival is that they hang on to the ball for too long and then end up down a blind alley with no one to lay the ball off too and not in a good enough position to get off a decent effort at goal.

Ensico is clearly different to the above, as he tends to receive the ball make himself a bit of space and gets a shot off as soon as there's any opportunity to. This does tend to end up in turning the ball over quickly...but it also means we are making more chances, which if he is backed up well from his fellow forwards will lead to more goals. Chances create more chances, just look at the Watkins goal for an example of that.

Ensico definitely adds something extra to our attack that we don't have anywhere else currently, we have been missing spontaneity from our team this year and he has that in bunches.

Hopefully it's just a case of him being worried at the time that it's a recurrence of his injury from last season but just turns out to be a knock, much like Smods at Cov.

I'm sure we were one of the lowest teams in the league for dribbles attempted last season. It's clearly an area we've looked to address with the recruitment but potentially gone too far the other way...

Phil's latest story fills me with a little more hope that he will be back sooner rather than later!

I really hope so. We are really due some luck in the injury department this season. It's been savage.

If we'd have got Enciso in first.... would we have bothered to get in Philogene?

I like what I see in Enciso.... but I can't take to Philogene. Maybe its that overblown transfer malarkey or .... he doesn't look better than anything what we had already. Early days.

Think it's a bit early to write off Philogene, most of our new players struggle in the early days getting to grips with the style of play, McK really rates him, I've no doubt he'll be a key player once he's up to speed.

Philogene is absolutely class and more crucially he is ours to developed. He's a couple of years away from being a really top player as he builds consistency and a bit of physicality.
