Recruitment 02:14 - Feb 23 with 1133 views | BondiBlue | A few people saying it's been poor. I wouldn't say poor but it perhaps wasn't the strategy that gave us the best chance of staying in the league this season. If everyone's keen to stick together in the championship next season, that's a heck of a team, and the younger ones will go for more than we bought them for if we sell them at the right time. One season of pain for long-term gain. Could prove to be a great strategy in two years time if we come back up and stay up.

Recruitment on 03:19 - Feb 23 with 1054 views | FrankMarshall | Agree. I think we will be strong next season in the championship. I can see us getting promoted next year and making a better effort to stay up in 26/27 season. We do need to get used to the idea though that Delap will leave us. Recruitment team seems to know what works in the Championship so I'm sure a couple of suitable strikers will come in.

Recruitment on 06:43 - Feb 23 with 931 views | homer_123 | The other aspect to consider is that, maybe, it's proved harder to recruit than expected. Mick Mills said yesterday that he'd wished we'd signed 4 or 5 'real quality' players. Genuine prem players who could lead those less experienced. Whilst all very sensible, he forgets that KM is as much interested in the 'character' of the player joining as their technical ability. He won't, rightly, IMO just sign anyone. We've clearly tried to balance improving the overall squad (we have achieved that) whilst trying to be competitive and stay up (this is looking less likely). In the long run though, I still think we have had the right approach.

Recruitment on 07:11 - Feb 23 with 864 views | WinchBlue | It’s virtually impossible for a promoted side to recruit a Prem quality team because of FFP. There is such a gulf in quality between top of Champ and bottom of Prem, the promoted team simply does not have enough cash available to buy and pay a team of players that are competitive. It’s no coincidence that last season and this season will see the promoted teams go straight back down. The only way to give a promoted team a chance is for them to buy big in there January promotion season window so they have 1/2 a prem quality team, then buy big again in the September after they are promoted. But you try finding a backer prepared to do that!
Recruitment on 07:15 - Feb 23 with 853 views | ChateauWines | Agree with what you say. We don't really have a 1st XI. At this moment in time if everyone available only non negotiable starters would be Palmer, Tuanzebe , O'Shea and Delap. Rest are 6 of one, half a dozen of another. All good at championship standard. I.e. Burgess/ Wolfie/ Greaves? Davis/ Townshend? Phillips// Caljuste/ Morsy/ Taylor? Hutchinson/ Broadhead/ Chaplin/ Philogene/ Clark/ Schmodics? We all have our preferred but someone else has a good argument to play others

Recruitment on 07:27 - Feb 23 with 812 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | I think it's been poor, even if the strategy was to build for the future. £125M+ spent on 12 players, plus loan signings. And I'm not sure how many of those signings will prove to be good value for money. Muric - be lucky to receive any sort of fee (certainly nowhere near £8M) O'Shea - decent player but is he really worth £12M? Greaves - again, is he really worth £15M? Ogbene - maybe unfair to judge, but he looked like an £8M panic signing Philogene - probably too early to judge, but £20M is looking expensive Clarke - will probably rip up the Championship, but £15M and no better than Broady IMO
Recruitment on 08:05 - Feb 23 with 747 views | ArnieM | OP: exactly, and that's where we have been recruiting for, the championship not the Plastic League. These young players we've brought in this year are fir further development, not the PL finished article. Not sure why people can't get this. Ashton has said they plan 2-3 windows ahead. We essentially were promoted ahead of our current t recruitment strategy. You'll see this next season.

Don't disagree. However, if you are playing Son, Salah and Foden every week you need £350m to give survival a decent spin.

Recruitment on 08:49 - Feb 23 with 632 views | Len_Brennan | Our strategy was to buy quality Championship+ level young, British & Irish players, who would increase in value or at least retain their value, in the event that we were relegated. Muric aside, they have probably achieved that. We are in a position where Delap will definitely go for big money, O'Shea will have suitors offering more than £12m & unfortunately Tuanzebe will leave for nothing as his contract expires; but other than those, nobody else will be sold unless we get at lease what we paid for them, and we'll be happy to keep them for an assault on the Championship next season. Like Fulham & Bournemouth in recent years, we'll be much stronger for our season in the PL, & should be at least as competitive in the Championship as Sheffield Utd & Burnley are currently. If/when we come back up, recruitment will be a lot less intensive that it was last Summer, as we won't be needing to upgrade an entire squad from one that was assembled in League 1. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
