Am I right in my thinking with this.

Someone earlier said something about Luton doing things better than town. But isn't it more of the following.

That Luton played a style that some prem teams couldn't adjust to at times and that's why they had some success. A horrid big side who put the ball into the box as often as possible and the numbers game basically means your chances of goals increases. Compared to towns style which is more of playing the way most established prem sides play but without that quality. So to defend or attack town is actually easier as the sides we are facing are basically playing a version of themselves but with lesser players.

I may be remembering Lutons football completely wrong so please correct me if I am.

But is that basically why all three promoted sides are struggling this season as all are simply just playing football across the pitch and not getting the ball into the box enough with big tall players getting in the mixture.

Luton finished on 26 points, so we have twelve games left to pick up nine points. Guess we might manage it.

Taking away Forest's deduction, they were ten points off safety at the end of the season; we're currently five adrift but, in the same way we could claim eight points from the remaining fixtures, the gap could grow too.

Kenilworth Road is a dump which helped them more than PR with all it's upgrades recently has helped us.

Poll: What will be announced first?

Interestingly, their home record was W4 D4 L11 F28 A37.

Ours is currently W1 D4 L9 F10 L30.

The lack of goals at Portman Road is shocking. I hadn't realised it until I looked up the record. Only scored ten???

Poss, but there isn't a lot of difference between the two teams stats after 26 games

Luton had:-
W5 D5 L16 points=20 GD -17 GF 38 / GA55
Town
W3 D8 L15 points=17 GD -30 GF 24 / GA54

So points wise not a big difference. Big difference is Goals difference & goals scored, with us on -30 and Luton -17 after 26 games.

Those stats certainly resonate with what we see. We’re not exactly clinical. We’ve always missed a shed load of chances under KM. Not that it’s his fault and it’s not something that’s mattered until this season when we create so little. In the last two seasons it didn’t matter as we created chances for fun.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

If I remember correctly, Luton played with a no fear and nothing to lose attitude.

We've certainly been overawed on occasions (Liverpool, Man City) and too passive (Everton, Palace, Brighton) this season.

The odd thing is the overawed didn't come at the start of the season, when you would expect it to. It came midway through, in the return games. I'd say our performance at the Etihad was better than the Portman Road match.

Against Brighton we were fine until they scored. Then we crumbled.

With the number of shots we do miss.. Does anyone know if we have two attacking coaches or just the ex man utd goalkeeper as our attacking coach?

We're 9th in the league for shots on target %, joint 13th for goals per shot (0.09 - Brentford are top on 0.14, Newcastle 6th on 0.12, Southampton bottom on 0.07). Considering we have less talented players, that isn't too bad. Our biggest problem by far is we create so little on average. Yesterday was an outlier in the amount of opportunities we had.

Last season we were best in the division for goals per shot (0.12) and shots on target % (35.5).

They were definitely more physical and aggressive.

Their ground also did them favours, you wouldn't want to go there as opposition. Unfortunately Portman Road is not a hostile place and it's got a lovely big pitch and a nice surface. Perfect for sides who want to play good football which is most of the league.

Delap x5
Hutchinson x3
Chaplin x1
Davis x1

No goals from midfielders, no goals from CBs. Nothing at all from a set piece which feels like a shocking stat.

Terrible really.

So far we have only scored three goals at the North Stand end. All coming in the 2nd half (53rd, 55th & 72nd minute)

To only score one goal at home in the league after an hour is a slight concern for me
