In what world is that type of response acceptable? 08:15 - Apr 11 with 1705 viewsbluelagos

Anyone in imminent danger?

A proportionate response to the danger?

Did they even try and talk to the guy?

That appears to be attempted murder. But they are making America great again and have the power to do that in a fascist state.

I don’t know anything about this particular incident, but in general the things they are doing is full-on fascism. The term’s been bandied about a lot and has probably lost some of its shock effect, but they’re raising the bar considerably.

The police in the US are out of control, not helped by the structure of local, state and federal. Back in 1994 Congress instructed the Attorney General to compile and publish annual statistics on police use of excessive force, this was never carried out.

I don't think the US cops particularly care who is in power to act as a lawless mob.

Part of the issue is the way US policing works. There's no unification of standards or training, with many different authorities and juristictions (local, state, highway, FBI).

At the bottom end (especially in rural areas), they aren't necessarily well paid, trained or recruited from the best material. And they live in a world where literally everyone could have a gun (150+ per year are killed in the line of duty). Which leads to a shoot-first-ask-questions-later attitude.

Plus the sheer numbers mean there are more problem characters, in absolute terms. There are nearly 1.3m police in the US. Compare that to the Met, who have 34k officers and think how many "bad apples" have been found there.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

99% of them are decent people doing a tough job. Sadly, as in this clip, those in the 1% are dangerously out of control and seldom face consequences.

Apologies as my statement was ridiculously generic and unfair to the majority of law enforecement in the US (and UK) who do an incredibly difficult job facing a lot of danger on our behalf.

You are correct - it is the minority which are out of control.

I'm not sure we should be posting direct links to violence on a forum frequented by children.

Albeit I don't disagree with the broader point.

Okay I was being a bit soft...

We definitely shouldn't be posting links to violence on a forum frequented by children.
