It does feel like the fee for McAteer is a bit rich, but I wonder if we are being taxed by a rival and having lots of money after a fairly poor window.
But it strikes me that as a fanbase we want every signing to be bigger and better than the last, and he’s a sobering lesson that you need a bit of grit and graft too in this league. Good age, always played well against us, and someone you’d have faith in McKenna to develop.

I think that is just the missing ingredient, atm.. Because, imo, we have a more talented squad of players than the last time we were in this division..
Lets not forget, we did a lot of this season's recruitment last Summer.
But the turnover of players (and staff) since relegation, means we have to build that comradery up again.

I love the idea of Akpom as a 9 but I wonder if he will be played elsewhere to accommodate both? Can we see Hirst being the back up to him given his seniority and wages?
I don’t think it’s the doom and gloom some are craving, but we’ve definitely had our arse kicked this window by either aiming too high or being too complacent about other clubs selling to us. It’s a massive week for Ashton and probably the first time we might see it go a bit Brizzle on here. | |

At this point i'd be looking at Ellis Simms again. It's not the glamour signing most want at number 9 but we wont get that as a Championship club.
He ticks a lot of KM boxes, big, powerful, willing runner etc. Plus he also presumably wouldn't be too fussed about being essentialy a back up to Hirst, seing as he is not a nailed on starter at Coventry. |  | | |
