McKenna obviously would’ve wanted Chaplin to stay. We haven’t just farmed him out, it’s clearly a move he would’ve wanted.
Trouble is, when you’ve told Morsy, Broadhead, Woolfenden that they’ve basically ‘earned the right’ to decide their future, you can hardly deny Chaplin the same without him being seriously miffed.

Yeah, a huge gamble. A whole new spine to the team since last time and several characters/leaders gone. KM and the senior players have really got their work cut out to turn us back into a team tactically and a strong unit mentally. We’re certainly lacking both, although rescuing a point a couple of times shows some spirit. It’s very different to winning games at the end, which was such a big part of 23/24 season. |  |

I love Chaplin - he epitomises the last 3 years. He's a Duracell Bunny too - and does some great things, plus brings some energy to the pitch. He's also been less effective recently - maybe just Old Father Time.
Similar to Morsy - I thought he'd stay this season, but get fewer and fewer minutes as the season progressed, as the changing of the guard played out. Chaplin was similar for me - it's just played out quicker than I thought. |  | | |

I’m not saying he’s a starter, but the squad is 100% weaker without him.
McKenna intimated he didn’t want others to leave this summer, and if he didn’t want Chaplin around, it wouldn’t have taken until today - nor would he have been the one wheeled out doing interviews about how he’ll fill the leadership void left by Morsy. [Post edited 1 Sep 22:10]

I’m not talking about one game - it’s based on his impact when he’s played over the year. Unlike some comments we see on the forum, I wouldn’t make an assessment based on 1 appearance.
Yes, there have been times he’s emulated 2023/24, but imo he’s not the impact player he was 2 years ago. Can’t fault his energy, but that doesn’t ensure an end product. | | | |

£4m for Woolfy and £0 for Morsy seems massively underselling them too, plus potential rivals strengthened in Blades, Cov and Wrexham (as much as we might not like to say it).

No. What is right is right. If Morsy wanted that uber payday at 34 and we helped him it’s right. Same for Chaplin with his hometown club. Brilliant bloke and a terrific player but if he wants to be more than a squad player we should let him go with our blessing, sadly. His character was just the best.
Woolfy? Well the club put themselves in a corner by trying to upgrade on him. Did they succeed? Not really for me but that’s not the point. We are where we are and he’s been rightly let go.
AAH? I think he has a bit about him. Luton is a good club and I hope he does well. If he does a £1m player will bring in £3m. £2m profit that a certain poster called sht and others who would have willingly driven him anywhere for nothing or/and abused him in pre season at Colchester with malicious gusto.

It does pretty much also confirm what I suggested though - CC, if he stayed, would get declining minutes, as the squad is transitioning, and he wanted/needed something different.
I’m sad to see Chapman move, and maybe we’ll see him play for us again, but it’s an inevitable result of the evolution. | | | |
