Starmer's response to it being labelled a shambles was 'yeah but Liz Truss'. What a circus, the people really deserve so much better than any of the numpties governing us in recent times.

is it worse that the obr release the reeves budget early (not the fault of the government) or that the contents of the truss budget crash the economy costing the public dearly through their mortgage payments.

i'll take substance over style any day of the week!

Something else that can be blown out of proportion (and already is being). Who cares. Will find out about it eventually plus have known about a lot of things in it for days anyway.

Someone in the Treasury is currently on the phone to the OBR, using language that makes Malcolm Tucker sound like Thora Hird.

Of course it does not matter, but many countries around the world set there standards by how we operate. Also it gives all the markets a head start on everything and thus price changes happen before they should.

the poxy attitude is from badenoch, how can she blame the pm for a release from an independent body (set up by the tories, i believe)?

The responsibility is with the OBR. Why not say that? To turn around and say 'yeah but Liz Truss' is such a disappointing response. I say that as somebody who voted for him.

The incompetence in this country is absolutely astounding. Whether it be leaving sensitive documents on trains, releasing prisoners by mistake, missing chances to protect children. People just can't do their jobs.

Of course. It reflects on us as a nation very poorly. We are a mockery of a sham or is that a sham of a mockery? Hmmm?

Whatever anyone is that house says it is only the big man who wins. Small people like you and I suffer from it all.

Well quite, the OBR are independent of the government who would only have had early sight of the budget so their forecasts could be revealed in tandem. Same process as with any other budget and government, the fact that they’ve c*cked this particular one can hardly be blamed on the government

And while Starmers response isn’t ideal there’s at least a grain of truth in that a document being published early is less consequential than the budget itself crashing the economy

which is why i'm glad the budget is, in many ways, the opposite of the truss budget.

removing the 2 child benefit cap, a mansion tax, gambling tax etc. could always be much better for the poor, but a damn sight better than con/reform ever do!

Yeah perhaps it will. But I don't agree with putting up the minimum wage. It is devaluing all the skilled workers and in some respects you might as well do a damn easy minimum wage job for an ok wage than put your knowledge on the line with your expertise. In 10 years expertise will be gone and the nation will be unskilled.

i think the minimum wage is vital, otherwise the big man gets bigger and the poor man gets poorer, get rid of the minimum wage and the benefits bill would soar.

if you want to earn more, skilling up remains the way to go. as far as i'm aware general wage growth is higher than the minimum wage growth

I hope you are right, but I feel like that is why prices are going up so much. Too expensive to live in this country now.

minimum wage has (rightly) more than doubled in 15 years, I doubt very much general wage growth has done that. I know mine hasn't !! Upskilling is all very fine for the individual, the problem is with the employer who is seeing the erosion of the gap between the unskilled an the skilled yet can not afford to maintain that gap by across the board pay rises. The minimum wage has been addressed now and the increase should be slowed to inflation levels.
