Away form compared 23:05 - Jan 24 with 1587 viewsNthsuffolkblue

Coventry; Boro; Us (against themselves is the equivalent of playing us):

Brum: 2-3; N/A; 1-1 - +1; N/A
Preston: 1-1; 2-2; 0-1 - -1, -1
Brizzle: N/A; 0-2; 1-1 - N/A; +1
Boro: 4-2; N/A; 1-2 - -3; N/A
QPR: N/A; N/A; 4-1
Swansea: N/A; N/A; 4-1
Hull: N/A; 4-1; 2-0 - N/A; 0
Oxford: 2-2; 1-1; 1-2 - -1; -1
Blackburn: N/A; N/A; 1-1
Leicester: 0-0; 1-1; 1-3 - -1; -1
Millwall: 4-0; 3-0; 0-0 - -2; -2
Coventry: 0-3; N/A; 2-0 - +3; N/A
Sheff Utd: N/A; N/A; 1-3

So, in the equivalent 13 fixtures we have played, Coventry have performed 4 pts better than us and hold a 8 pt lead.

In the equivalent fixtures, Boro have performed 4 pts better than us and hold a 5 pt lead having played a game more than us.

What does that show? I have no idea but I wanted to see just how poor our away form is compared to the top two. Preston, Oxford, and Leicester each see us drop 1 pt on both. Coventry did well to win at Boro while we lost there. Millwall is the worst result according to that comparison with both of them winning well whilst we got 0-0.

The other possible takeaway is drawing instead of losing away would have made a fair difference.

Coventry have wins in the bag at Derby, Sheff Wed, Portsmouth and Stoke.
Boro have wins in the bag at nodge, Sheff Wed, Charlton, West Brom and Stoke.

Some of those are not at all easy places to go.

It kinda shows that despite how bad our away form has been if we can have a solid February we can catch up a bit to that.

Think thats the key really. Weve got more away games than home. We arent gonna win every game but we will need to win a fair few away and get some draws. If we do that and keep up our excellent home form it gives us a great chance of catching both sides.

I think at the moment. We feel positive when a PR game is coming up. You cant reallt have that feeling away yet.

Feb is a big big month

Does it show you’ve got too much time on your hands ?

We’ve got to do better on the road; we’re giving ourselves too much to do at home.

But does it? In the equivalent fixtures, Coventry have hardly outperformed us at all (1 pt only). Is it equally possible we have got trickier matches out of the way?

We do need to do better overall but I am hoping we have faced some tougher threats than our rivals have so far. Maybe I am clutching at straws, though.

Just thought I would check on this stat again: (EDITED as I had made a mistake on us v Cov Brizzle comparison)

Brum: 2-3; 3-1; 1-1 - +1; -2
Preston: 1-1; 2-2; 0-1 - -1, -1
Brizzle: 2-0; 0-2; 1-1 - -2; +1
Boro: 4-2; N/A; 1-2 - -3; N/A
QPR: 1-2; 4-0; 4-1 - +3; 0
Swansea: N/A; N/A; 4-1 -
Hull: N/A; 4-1; 2-0 - N/A; 0
Oxford: 2-2; 1-1; 1-2 - -1; -1
Blackburn: N/A; N/A; 1-1 -
Leicester: 0-0; 1-1; 1-3 - -1; -1
Millwall: 4-0; 3-0; 0-0 - -2; -2
Coventry: 0-3; 1-3; 2-0 - +3; +3
Sheff Utd: 2-1; 2-1; 1-3 - -3; -3
Derby: 5-3; 0-1; 2-1 - 0; +3
Wrexham: 2-3; N/A; 3-5 - 0; N/A
Watford: N/A; 0-3; 2-0 - N/A; +3
Stoke: 1-0; 2-1; ... -

So, in the equivalent 17 fixtures we have played, Coventry have now performed 6 pts better than us and now hold a 10 pt lead still having played a game more than us.

In the equivalent fixtures, Boro have performed the same as us and now hold a 5 pt lead having still played a game more than us.

We need to win tomorrow night to keep up but that would suggest we have matched Boro on away form in the head-to-head fixtures so far. They have already been to nodge and Southampton (probably our trickiest two remaining away matches on paper) and got 4 points from them.

I do find it interesting that our away form is similar on those same fixtures (EDIT: to Boro's not Coventry's though)

The post had we wondering if any where on the internet you could find a chart showing rolling average of points for Championship clubs over the season to date.

The reply included this gem

“ TWTD (Through the Wind and the Rain) League Tables: They offer a specific "Current 2025/26 Championship Form Table" that breaks down performance over the last 6 matches.”

AI really isn’t reliable is it?

I do like that new acronym (EDIT: except it doesn't work!)

So does this mean the difference comes from the home form?

More likely from the fixtures that only one of us has played already. Considering we only have Southampton in the top half left I would suggest we have easier away fixtures left than they do.

EDIT: Without comparing specific fixtures, our home form is better than Boro's but worse than Coventry's which is exceptional.
