Livramento out injured, replaced by Chalobah 16:05 - Jun 16 with 1103 viewsPique

Not sure I follow Tuchel's thinking there, to be honest.

Possibly means that Guehi is also a bigger injury concern than has been disclosed.

Although I think Chalobah usually plays on the right?

We now have six centre backs in the squad by my count, which seems a little odd.

Especially when we only have one left back, and he's not really a left back.

Not suggesting its ideal, but its the only reason I could think he will bring a CB in.

TT will see O'Reilly and Spence as the two LB options. (I hope he's not thinking of using Burn at LB).

I think he's thinking of Konsa as the back up right back to Reece James now, not Chalobah, who has presumably been brought in to backfill the centre back spot.

Not sure what Lewis Hall has done wrong though - surely it would have made more sense to bring him in.

We get quite caught up in all this, when all we are really talking about is replacing a 3rd choice LB who probably wouldn't play anyway.

Didn't realise that you were able to do that once the squad had been finalised.

The deadline is up to 24 hours before the tournament has started (for that team).

Quansah can play there as well.

Think there were four back up players taken to the states with the squad to cover for potential injuries and that Chalobah was the best fit of the four to step in.

Happy for Trev but it's not a decision I agree with from the outside looking in and not sure where he fits in.

Taking Chalobah leaves us with Spence as cover at right back and Burn as cover at left back.

I think it would've made more sense to take Lewis-Skelly, who is a very good left back and equally good in midfield. Burn could then cover at centre back if needed.

Also wouldn't have been against adding Luke Shaw for his tournament experience.

Think you're thinking of the four youngsters who went out to help bulk out training aren't you? That was Alex Scott, Josh King, Ethan Nwaneri and Rio Ngumoha.

They've all gone home. Chalobah wasn't one of them - the call-up to replace Livramento could have been anyone.

Disagree. Livramento can cover both full back positions, and given James's injury record, O'Reilly potentially being deployed in midfield, the general need for rotation in a tournament in the heat and the fact Tuchel seems to like him, he would have seen some game time. Maybe quite a bit.

Happy to agree to differ.

I’m looking forward to seeing his latest hair style :)

Hope he gets some game time, big fan of his during his spell with us.

I don't think so. Sounds like Chalobah is being flown in to Kansas to give him time to acclimatise while the rest of the squad travel to Dallas for the first game.

I just wondered because some players played in the friendly before the Arsenal players joined up. So Chalobah had started his summer holiday and now has to train again with little likelihood of actually playing (but will be a part of everything).

That's my understanding, but I could be wrong. I think it was only Ngumoha (of the non-squad four) who played in the friendly if I remember rightly, and that was because we didn't have any right wingers left (Saka and Madueke being Arsenal players).

He is a good player. Not sure it's a question of 'better', just seems a bit odd to replace a full back with yet another centre back (we now have six in the squad) rather than a specialist left back, especially as we only have one left footed full back (O'Reiily) in the squad (and some would argue he's not really a full back anyway).
