Posh George/Farage Gate 11:58 - Jul 6 with 1289 viewsnrb1985

Following on from the Farage thread, I see the Sunday Times have now done a 3 part podcast on who "Posh George" is and gone through his life root to branch.

You don't have to look too hard at my posting history to know I absolutely loathe Farage but going through Posh George's life, a 20 something year old, with a fine toothcomb doesn't quite sit right.

He's clearly a bit of a wrongun but served his time it seems. He donates to Reform and Nige - it's not his fault if Comrade Nige doesn't declare it I'd say. But on top of that, they're digging into things like his Mum once posed for penthouse magazine and a whole host of other salacious items that are fairly irrelevant to anything.

For me. a three part podcast, isn't in the public interest and probably only plays into Nige's hands in terms of the establishment conspiracy. Feels a bit OTT.

I am usually a great fan of languid understatement but I feel in this case it is not appropriate

Posh George is a whole lot more than " a bit of a wrong'un"

Yes, he has served time for his fraud but latterly he seems to have built his life around supporting the odious Farage and is therefore one of the chief enablers of the ongoing car crash that is Brexit as well as the lies and hatred manufactured by the Sh1tstirrer General himself

I see him as fair game for a bit of investigative journalism so we can, if we wish, find out a great deal more about him

Or maybe we should let him and his cohort carry on their twin track of personal enrichment and trashing our country without allowing the disinfectant of sunlight to shine upon their shadowy endeavours

Isn’t he still up to his neck in dodgy stuff though? “Served his time” would work for a reformed ex-offender, but I think the bloke is now being investigated in whichever country he lives in for illegal electioneering/election funding (or something like that). I agree his mum has nothing to do with his illegal and dodgy behaviour though.

I read the long read on him, and the Penthouse thing was merely that his Mum dated Price Charles but because she had posed in Penthouse the Royal Family put a stop to it as opposed to an expose on her [and they provide the cutting of that, not the Penthouse article] - it's probably pretty relevant detail into who he is and his life.

He's a crook who is funding him and has been for a long time

You don't think that who is funding a man who wants to become Prime Minister isn't in the public interest? Farage surrounds himself with dodgy characters* and has been funded by several of them, that's hugely important and Farage's enormous and obvious is like of any scrutiny is telling.

With a bit of luck, this will be like Boris Johnson's various scandals which didn't matter until suddenly they did.

On the contrary, mainstream media don’t do nearly enough digging and exposing. They shouldn’t leave it all to Private Eye.

To be clear, yes I absolutely do and the media has done a great job of highlighting that over the weekend.

My point is I don’t think it needs a 3 part podcast on it which basically cnts off both his parents, where he went to school and everything else in between when the type of character he is is clear for all to see.

I think this level of scrutiny only plays into the establishment stitch up narrative. Where was all this on Cameron and Greensill for example? Nobody ever mentions things like that.

And as mentioned, some of the stuff brought up in it was quite unedifying even if I loathe his politics.

Yes exactly, I read the article too and it definitely didn't seem salacious.

Terrifying that people like this wield so much influence and a timely expose of the sleaze and corruption surrounding Farage.

Good to see it coming from the Sunday Times too, who have a fairly right wing readership I'd have thought.

If you look on the podcast feed the new one ‘Posh George’ has been released on you’ll see back in August 2025 they had a 5 part series called ‘Cameron and the Toxic Banker’ about him and his relationship with Lex Greensil

I said on the Farage thread that I thought politics should be decided on the basis of policies rather than personal attacks but it is the case that personal attacks on people on the left cut through much more than such attacks on people on the right.

Thanks Joe, that’s fair enough I hadn’t seen that.

My main point though is that digging up and then putting out for public consumption the fact his Mum got her bits out in a magazine before he was even born doesn’t really advance anyone’s argument nor paint The Times in a great light either IMO.

Public absolutely has a right to know who funds their politicians but that’s already been well documented without the need for the other salacious titbits - which for my tastes are somewhat unnecessary.

I suppose the issue though is that he was no longer PM by then.

As PM, he and Osborne got an incredibly free ride from the media, including the BBC.

It should be decided on the basis of rock, paper, scissors. Or even better conkers during autumn elections. And I bet either would produce outcomes for the country that are no worse than what we get now.
