| Most 'out there' formation for tomorrow, nothing conventional please 09:17 - Oct 16 with 980 views | NthQldITFC | I'm normally pretty conservative with formations and players, but I'm getting the horn for a wild and wacky one off setup for tomorrow. Given that 115 Citeh FC want to camp out in our half with Anderson sweeping around behind and four, sometimes five, strung across the edge of our box, I'm going for this: ================Walton =====O'Shea======Diop=====Greaves Ouattara=========================Davis ======Lukic======Tino=====Palacios Emersonn======================Enciso Key thing is two forwards hugging the touchlines with two high energy fullbacks behind them, and a solid three in front of another solid three. The Ouattara\Lukic_Tino_Palacios/Davis shield (backed up by a solid three last line) forces 115 into doing a lot of sideways stuff, with Ouattara and Davis capable of springing for an intercept and popping the ball around the wide 'defender' for Emersonn / Enciso to get in behind down one flank, with the other forward immediately coming narrow then to try to get into the hot zone on the counter. Im'a call this the Ballsy Crab formation. Not a sideways, Magilton-esque crab, but a face-on, hard shell, wide spread pincers type crab. Ballsy Crab interleaved with 115 possession formation: ================WALTON =====O'SHEA======DIOP=====GREAVES OUATTARA=========================DAVIS ----mf---------------fw------------fw---------------mf ======LUKIC======TINO=====PALACIOS df----------df--------------mf-------------df-----------df EMERSONN=======================ENCISO -----------------------------mf -----------------------------gk In reality Emersonn and Enciso are marking the full backs, but looking to get behind them when Ouattara or Davis spring against the wide midfielders and pinch the ball. I think that's OK, but with basically the whole of the 115 defence pushed up on Lukic and Pala, Maeda and even Enciso will get drawn deeper and deeper and a lone striker, centralish, will be easy for Anderson or whoever to mop up any of our out balls. As I understand it, 115 tend to play something like this in possession =====MF===FW====FW====MF ==DF===DF1===MF2===DF3===DF @============MF==========@ Which is why I think we need three 'proper' CMs to match up with DF1, MF2 and DF3, and then look to attack in the @ spaces, and be capable of threatening both simultaneously, which negates their fullbacks a little bit too. | |

| Most 'out there' formation for tomorrow, nothing conventional please on 09:40 - Oct 16 with 867 views | _CliveBaker_ | I would probably put an extra man in the midfield, and if we're being contrarian you might make an argument for Greaves at LB ahead of Davis if defensive solidity is more of a priority than attacking intent, although sitting in doesn't necessarily give us any more chance of a result as trying to ask a few questions of them which Davis is capable of. Flemming in the 9 as well, a bit more street wise than Emersonn and might be savvy enough to win us a bit of territory. I think he's due a start as well. One thing that's a guarantee is they'll dominate possession, we're going to be reliant on a counter and with that in mind Maeda makes sense. Walton Ouattara O'Shea Diop Davis Florentino Palacios Lukic Enciso Maeda Flemming Lukic heat map needs to be giving Davis a lot of support, the 'Luongo' role. Florentino has always had one of the highest stats for turning over possession in the leagues he's played. Get him biting ankles in there. If he's dropping in and right, Enciso needs to drop next to Palacios to create more of a 4-4-1-1. Maeda has legs, let him work his nuts off for an hour and running off and behind Flemming on the counter. Its a day for a bit of 'nous' for me. O'Shea, Diop, Lukic, Enciso & Maeda all have a lot of experience at international level, including playing top sides where they're 2nd favourites. Flemming too at club level. A day for calm heads, and a healthy level of housery. Lets not let 1 become 2 inside 5 minutes. Sit in, silence the crowd, frustrate, kill the momentum where possible. | | | |

Obviously only one of the goalkeepers can wear the jersey and gloves, handle the ball, but the other two are good stoppers with their feet and tall enough to head away most aerial threats. But if they are all between the sticks doesn't that mean City are never offside ? City are probably the best team in the Premier League at getting behind a defence so why bother trying to play them off ? As soon as one of keepers has the ball they have to get it to our sole central defender, Leif Davis. There not for being a conventional big man in the middle but for his passing accuracy over distance so that he can play the ball forward to one of our front seven. Fastest transitions ever. Walton - Palmer (in the jersey) - Scherpen Davis Philogene Clarke Maeda Enciso Emmersonn Egeli Fatawu Out there enough ? [Post edited 16 Oct 9:48]

Can drive into the midfield - releasing Enciso to drive and support Akpom. That player is Jacob Greaves. I would want the extra cover of the defender but I want JG starting attacks and driving out with the ball. GK - Walton LWB - Davis CB - Diop SW/ Libero - Greaves CB - O'Shea RB - Ouattara LM - Jaden P CM - Palacios CM - Enciso RM - Egeli ST - Akpom [Post edited 16 Oct 9:58]

That's the sort of lateral thinking that made us what we are. Chapeaux.

I agree that's probably exactly the right thing to do, but it's way too sensible for this thread, Fred. It's the Ballsy Crab all the way for me, at least until kick off.

Well if you are going ballsy crab I'm calling my three goalies plus Leif and seven attackers, reflecting the financial disparity between clubs that play by the rules and others, Squids In.

Emersonn drops back in to a 6-4 when defending with the best low block the Premier League has ever seen. Enciso will score a chip from the half way line and we win 1 nil with 3% possession.
