Fit and proper ... shouldn't there be some kind of test for that?

Something to test whether owners and directors are fit and proper? Good idea. No idea what they could call it though.

He's been the name linked for the last couple of days. There is no way he should pass a FPP test. But this is the Football League we are talking about, so who knows....

BBC now reporting another party led by a bloke called Naeema Khilji has been named in the court case as the company set to take over. Apparently both parties haven't so far shown the proof they have the necessary funds to actually buy the club, but have apparently been cleared by the league to take over the club (if I've understood case correctly)...So, proving you actually have the liquidity to buy the club isn't part of the fit and proper test? Which would make the whole thing even more bonkers.

It does beg the question - why the hell would anyone want to buy a football club?

At this stage it's rapidly becoming clear it's two types of people A) The genuinely megarich who can afford to blow hundreds of millions on what is essentially a plaything for them (but which, of course, can then turn into a money maker if you're talking about the top 20 clubs in the world) B) A set of grubby, often half-criminal, half-rich who really can't afford such an expensive habit, but presumably get a kick out of the 'prestige' or are just that delusional to think they'll be a success at it regardless.

No-one with half a brain would want to buy a football club - the whole industry is a sure-fire way to lose money. The only ones interested in buying a club are those whose intentions are questionable in the extreme. The potential buyers for Bolton already have form for bankruptcy - there's no way in a million years they should be allowed anywhere near a football club, yet it will be nodded through. Bolton may have survived for now, but they're still going to be a complete mess - that is going to be very difficult to change, given their debts and the new owners.

I was in the car at the time but heard former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan who was saying he had previous with Bassini and if Bolton fans think their current owner is a basket case then they are in for an even worse experience with Bassini.

I guess it would simply get re-arranged same as any other postponement, or they play it behind closed doors.

Interesting that when Bolton are available, everyone says 'who the hell would want to buy Bolton.' ...yet, people also think Evans would find it easy to secure a buyer for Ipswich?

There is a third sort: Those who were already fans of the club, who have made money and are prepared to put most of that into the club (including selling off their businesses). The owners of Bristol, Brentford, Middlesbrough and Derby being examples.

Bassini was in court this morning with the BWFC solicitor, and was named on the court steps as being behind the bid, hence Talk Rubbish discussing him with Simon Jordan on air after the verdict came through. Jordan had plenty to say - none of it good. And the guy behind Gaspard is equally as shady by all accounts, wouldn't be at all surprised if there's a link between him and Bassini.

The difference is that Anderson wants his payout, and wants someone else to clear the debts. Evans would hopefully be more accommodating, otherwise he really is a bad owner.

Jack Walker led the way for that, in terms of being a multi multi millionaire bankrolling his local team.

I find Simon Jordan very interesting and forthright with his knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes at a football club.

Whats the extent of Andersons debts? Hes only had c.2 years to ramp up any debts, as the previous owner cleared them.

Would they be allowed to postpone? Given this is within the club's control rather than an Act of God (e.g. weather). Pretty sure lack of funds is not seen as an adequate excuse. If they are deemed unable to fulfil the fixture, that has quite serious consequences. Clubs have been thrown out of the League for such things (albeit doing that repeatedly).

I stand corrected. From what I read yesterday that had broken down and the Gaspard Holdings deal was the one likely to go through. The BBC have updated their story and it appears both are in the running. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47500131
