Anyone remember when this would issue out from the North Stand, followed by 'you simple s0ds'?
No idea why the chant has suddenly started popping up in my head these last few days but I have mulled over the unacceptability of The Black and White Minstrel Show, even back in the seventies let alone today, compared with how well it got sung at Portman Road. I am certainly not suggesting it should be revived but the wit, and the luring in of opposition supporters, that emanated from such songs seems to be sadly lacking these days. Not to mention the singing ability and volume.

I remember it but I don’t recall it being s0ds, far too polite, not tw@ts, which is too recent an insult. But you other point about songs, the inventive ones, the ones sung at the right pace, the general lack of reliance on the words Blue and Army was spot on.

I know what I heard, I was actually there. It was definitely not tw@ts, why would it be, no one used it as an insult back then only as a reference to a body part, it doesn't scan and it is not the subtle and deft put down that worked so well, it would have been too simple...

I remember it as tw@t too but I had Hegan rather than Crawford in my mind for the "Hancock better than Yashin" song.

Was definitely tw#ts. Was also sung elsewhere by other teams fans. As others have said was only a mild insult in those days. Can’t even spell it out now it seems for fear of causing offence.

I should let it go but thus still rankles, a 'simple s0d' was a common put down back then. Think of Benny from Crossroads. Didn't he personify the entire Villa support? So what would you sing to them when their attempts at getting something more complex than 'Villa ' went awry?

My believing that it was tw@ts is not a guarantee that I am right because I am still convinced that I sung "Hegan is better than Eusebio" even if everyone else on here says that it was "Crawford is...."
Danny Hegan was my favourite player in the mid to late 1960's so maybe that is why I sung (or thought I sung) his name.

my memory of that song is most certainly Crawford, but there again I mixed up the teams in the 'onward christian solders' chant from the late 60s.
