Valuations of Norwich players.... 15:16 - Jan 3 with 2141 viewsitfcjoe

....after yesterdays thread re Aarons, there is now talk here of Cantwell as a £30m rated midfielder:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7846677/Manchester-United-joi

So we have Godfrey (£60m), Aarons (£45m) and Cantwell (£30m) before you even consider the likes of Buendia, Lewis and Pukki.

These sort of fees for (largely) young British players show how important it is to get Dozzell into the team, and to get Woolfenden and Downes tied down, and Lankester back fit etc.

I'm sorry, I know this is the way football is going now, and this has nothing to do with them being Norwich players either, but they're utterly ridiculous quoted fees (from the papers) for players who have spent 6 months playing in the Prem. Madness.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

Young English players with a bit of PL experience are worth a fortune - especially if youh internationals.

Man U bid £35m for Longstaff in the summer and Newcastle turned it down, he's not even very good

And it's not just 6 months in the Prem, is it? They have shown they can play and done it in the Championship too.

There have been a good number that hadn't played in the Premier League at all that have gone for fees in double figures of millions aren't there?

Those quoted fees are utterly bonkers. The world is broken.

These figures are just being plucked from the air though. Made up stories to drum up expectations in a dull transfer window where nothing much will happen. If Norwich had two or three exceptional talents they wouldn't be bottom of a fairly feeble Prem.

It's more a reflection of the way Norwich play and the fact that in Maddison they did unearth a truly exceptional talent that these players are being overhyped.

You also have to temper your enthusiasm for Town's 'talented youngsters'. Dozzel is a busted flush, career ruined by injury and the other two will go to middling to hopeful championship teams if they maintain their form to the end of the season.

It's essentially a Hayekian model of supply and demand market so as long as the supply is limited then the fees will probably increase almost linearly with the increases in available money.

Without "governmental body" interference in the market it's hard to see how the cycle will be broken, especially with Amazon entering the fray. They can outbid Sky for the rights and find the money down the back of the sofa, for once, Sky is totally outgunned.

It could get worse before it gets better.

Looks like Spurs are after Aarons and a £45m fee has been slapped on his head, can see them getting that , maybe a bit less for Buendia, Godfrey. Cantwell , we can laugh at them going down but it'll put them in a healthy position in the Championship when you add on £75m parachute payments . Prices are bonkers though
