Rhymes with 'push'. 16:16 - Feb 11 with 1006 viewsSharkey

Does anybody still call people 'moosh'? (I don't know how to spell it, but it rhymes with 'bush', 'push'.)
It was a common word in the 70s and 80s, at least in north Essex. Was it an East Anglian word? Or a general southern word? Was it used only to people you knew, or to strangers? Has it been completely been made redundant by 'mate'?

Haven't heard it for a while. Was interested where it comes from and it's Romani for man or bloke.

There are a few surprises on this list of some other Romani words that have entered the English language:

It's in the lyrics to the Only Fools and Horses theme tune: "From a Mush in Shepherds Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, Bush, No Income Tax, No VAT, No money back, No Guarantee..." etc

Also used to mean "mouth" (or maybe "face"?) back in the day, as in "Shut yer mush".
