Alan Brazil and lighter should not be in the same sentence together

The show- which I still catch chunks of fairly often, will not be the same.

They should avoid a repalcement who was not also a former player. Its one of the USPs of the show.

I'm not sure I fully understand the jokes about alcoholism.

I could watch videos of him playing all day. I'd rather remove my own ears with a rusty penknife than listen to his ill-informed ramblings and toe-curling 'banter' on the radio again.

It's still important to separate the illness from the man.

You should know that.

I havent seen any suggestion that he is ill.

He may drink too much- as many people do. He functions pretty well though- 20 years at that time of the morning. I dont think we can assume he is unwell...

I am suggesting that alcoholism is his illness.

Nothing more.

I've not seen anyone deny he's an alcoholic.

I understand of course, that people have differing views on addiction, but I can also see it a really difficult place to be, that's all. Absolutely no agenda.

He clearly functions and does not drink of a morning.

Whilst he has a reputation- it really doesnt mean he's some hopeless alcoholic.

There are forms of alcoholism.

Someone functioning can arrange their entire day/week/months/yearly calendar around their opportunity to access drink.

I don't know the guy personally, and you would be right to suggest I have no particular insight to the man's personal life.

But, in an effort to not lose sight of my original point. I don't think it's too kind to keep mentioning his drinking as a definition of him as a person overall.

In fairness- he does that himself. Its part of his public persona and he revels in it.

Can't lie, I've not listened to him in some years.

Bit like Parry, who seems to have gone down a rather dark road.

I don't listen to his radio show very often.

I'm glad he's slowing down while he still has the choice.
Away from the public eye he has a really lovely family and more than enough to do at his gaff to keep him busy.
