Watford statement 10:21 - May 9 with 1942 views | tractorboy1978 | A decent read. But I'm interested in how much of a home advantage there really is when fans aren't allowed in the stadium. And equally how much of an away 'disadvantage' there is in the same scenario. It seems rather disingenuous. [Post edited 9 May 2020 10:22]

Watford statement on 10:29 - May 9 with 1870 views | Guthrum | I suppose it's mostly familiarity of surroundings, all the club logos and colours around the place, use of the (probably nicer) home dressing room, stuff like that.

Watford statement on 10:29 - May 9 with 1870 views | Swansea_Blue | Familiar surroundings, home routine rather than having to travel and be based out of a hotel. Things like that I suspect. When you see the impact of switching to a new stadium has on some teams, that shows it can't just be about the fans. Not that without the fans it isn't utterly pointless of course.

It's a mentality thing isn't it. And if football does restart at neutral venues, going into it with this mindset is scarcely going to help win games and pick up points. You are mentally a step behind before you start. There isn't a winning solution to all this that benefits all 20 PL clubs and keeps 100% integrity.
Watford statement on 13:24 - May 9 with 1524 views | Radlett_blue | Given Watford are just outside the drop zone (by 1 goal on goal difference) it's pretty clear what their agenda is.

Exactly, same with all of the bottom 6, they just see it as a negotiating tactic to remove all threat of relegation for a season.
Watford statement on 14:34 - May 9 with 1380 views | patrickswell | Anything Scott Duxbury has to say about sporting integrity can be discounted. He didn’t seem to care a damn about it when he was CEO at West Ham and played fast and loose with Premier League rules on third party ownership of players with Mascherano and Tevez. I’m sure Sheffield United fans will be hoping he gets his just desserts. [Post edited 9 May 2020 14:35]

Watford statement on 16:30 - May 9 with 1266 views | Nthsuffolkblue | Home advantage is very difficult to understand. There are so many factors and the fans are only a part of it. Some clubs have had better records away - usually clubs that are struggling anyway - but often possibly because players feel under extra pressure to perform at home and away sides come with a defensive mentality - the idea you have to entertain your home fans but grinding out a result away is acceptable. A significant number of games behind closed doors would make an interesting analysis into the possible effect of fans at matches on results. Another possible factor is referees being influenced by the crowd too.

Doesn’t seem to work at Portman Road where the concept of either entertaining the fans or grinding out a result seems an alien one. Judging by Lambert’s comments after the Fleetwood defeat, our team will embrace an empty stadium like pigs in muck, because the poor loves can’t handle the thought of making fans happy by winning games. We’re supposed to applaud empty PR guestures and be grateful for it. Winning games? Don’t be absurd. As for referees, the Wycombe game showed that when they come to Portman Road, match officials are more intimidated by a protesting Adebayo Akinfenwa than they are by our fans. The one rule of refereeing seems to be that if it’s a tight decision, give against Ipswich - in all circumstances. [Post edited 10 May 2020 10:37]
