Sadly, I fear you're right. Full-on Trumpist politics hitting this country has been a certainty since June 2016.
The only way to nip this is the bud would be mass protests and smashing stuff up. Bit tricky to do that in the middle of a pandemic though, especially as the British have always seemed to lack the stomach for such direct action at the best of times.
