I've kept my mouth shut given the rumours about the English and Welsh results aren't good. It's A Level on Thursday and GCSE the Thursday after. I wonder if we will see any capitulation or cover-up now? The stuff from the TES and other media wasn't sounding promising for anyone so this will prove very interesting.

Not exactly. But it does open up several ethical dilemmas on both sides. Why ask and insist teachers spend hours agonising and making decisions if you're not going to honour or even acknowledge that input? Why ensure there is very little reflection of the trends in education other than exam results? Richer schools weed out weaker students as they go most obviously. But there are all sorts of trends such as kids in poorer schools doing better later in their career. So if you're only going to go off raw numbers it discriminates against them, something which education must not do when it suits the government etc. It's incredibly complex and this has just chucked a huge spanner in. I'll see if I can find some data if you're interested, but from memory it was the bottom 25% of students economically speaking that had their grades affected generally. In the coming results it's subjects like Latin which have tiny numbers that were going to be left alone - guess which kids do Latin?

Very difficult one tbh. The universities may have a surfeit of Scots in the next few years unless we do the same with results.

Nicely played by Sturgeon. Helps the SNP for the next elections in Scotland, forces boris to an impossible position where he's damned whatever he does. He should damned in the old-fashioned religious sense in any event.

At the moment there is the small matter of fees which will keep most Scottish students in Scottish universities.
