When you CTRL C something onto your 'clipboard' and before you've CTRL V'd it to it's destination that you were planning to do at some stage in the future, you CTRL C something else without thinking, losing the previous copied item. Serves me right for being so absent minded I guess, but there really should be a function to recall historic copied items.

On older versions of Windows, it was possible to see previous clipboard items. But think that feature was discontiuned sometime around XP.

You should be able to turn on the clipboard history if you're using Windows 10:
