Anyone else asked to take part in Covid testing 21:59 - Aug 21 with 1020 viewsnorth_stand77

By the Office of National Statistics?
We've agreed to do it but it probably involves 16 swab tests plus blood tests over the course of more than a year.
Anybody else on here had a letter?

I haven't been asked. I think it is good you are agreeing and would like to think the majority who are asked would do so. However, I don't do well with a blood test at any time and can't see myself accepting if asked. That said, it would be good to know the results (I presume anyone taking part gets to know their own results).

Yes, you do get results and have to agree that if you or anybody else in your household test positive, you must all isolate for 2 weeks. All members of your household have to take part, including any children.

A health care professional comes to your home weekly for the first few weeks and then monthly after that.
As a gesture of goodwill, you are offered a financial reward of £25 each visit which is nice but we would have done it anyway.

I took part in the antibody test a while back - that was part of the Imperial College study. It was easy enough, a kit through the post, prick of the finger and drop the blood on a pregnancy kit type tester. Turns out I haven’t had it.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I take it that's not the same as the Challenge trials? which do seem to me very risky & more suitable for those with very few or no dependents (involves actually being injected with the virus to see if vaccines work).

Well done for taking this testing on 👍

We've been doing it for the last month or so, just done our last weekly test and now on to monthly ones.

Unless it's changed you get £50 for the first one (all as vouchers)

Some of the questions get a bit repetitive, you wonder why some of the answers don't get saved automatically, though some actually have because there are less now every week then there was to start.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

It sounds like the same thing. Are the blood tests weekly too and are they a finger prick rather than a vein in the arm? (Hope so!)

Not had blood tests, we were told thatit's something we might get asked for but it's a certainty they'll want one. They may have changed that bit now I guess, but you can decline that if you wish, and withdraw from any or all of it at any given time.

Fairly sure it is the same thing, it's the office of national stats that' done all of the organising and communicating with us.

We haven't had a letter about that, but we do the covid report daily on the app. It shows up potential hot spots for the spread. Easy to do and only takes 30 seconds a day. They just ask about how you are feeling every day. I think the report was set up by Oxford Uni.
