Scott Parker! 19:48 - Nov 30 with 2226 viewsunstableblue

He was in the frame for the Ipswich job; I believe interviewed alongside Paul Hurst (which now seems so ridiculous).

Great result for him tonight... and what strikes me with his post match interview is - WHAT A LOVELY GUY.... the antithesis of the Evans manager!

Also plays football the right way.

Is Marcus dusting down his football advisors? is it Vinnie Jones and the Wimbledon Crazy Gang? we have a right to know.

Read an interesting article on League One Managers last season, judged by local football reporters. Its interesting to note that Joey Barton and Robbins get the most praise for being best divisional manager, and Coventry playing great stuff. How come a lowly funded, homeless club like Coventry can sniff out Robin! and we get Lambert?

Lambert is derided as 'fell at the first hurdle'!

Joey Barton anyone?

Barton would be a step up. Let that sink in.

I like Parker, but I doubt he would have taken the job if it was offered.

People like Lampard, Gerard and maybe to a lesser extent Parker will only go into roles where they have one of the best budgets in their chosen league.

Poll: Would Lambert have acheived better results than Cook if given the same resources

.. but I think Parker could have been secured, and at the time it was more a concern on our part on whether he was experienced enough.

I guess my point with him is that his persona would have so fitted with Town fans and local media

I think Barton is the cerebral manager Ipswich fans secretly all crave (but don't yet realise)... and he is getting a team to play well beyond the sum of its parts.....

I don't wholly dislike him... but I can't help feel he's never more than 2mins away from a very controversial moment! and just doesn't suit sleepy Ipswich

Yes -it has to be said Parker has had a well funded playing squad to select a team from.

But he is showing great character this season in seemingly turning Fulham round, from being completely written off.

I always come back to the fact that Evans completely misses the attributes that Town need from a manager. And 5 appointments have just shown a complete misunderstanding of what success looks like for ITFC.. including that key link to the academy and the playing style of the first team.

Assuming he liked what he heard, we could have got him at that point. He was very interested and was interviewed.

I agree, I like Parker.

But it is easier when you have a £25m striker who earns £100k per week for one.

We'll never know how he would have fared running an entire club on a shoestring budget.

He has still got his court appearance to come for the 'altercation' with the Barnsley manager.

You are a bit like a footballing magpie, widening your eyes at whichever manager you spot getting a decent result or string of results. I saw Fulham a few times last season and they were well organised and decent on the break but they weren't the most exciting to watch and quite different from some of the other 'technical' sides you've coveted. Not really a Rotherham or a Brentford, something in between.

Think he was at Tottenham at the time. I can think of two former Town managers with a background at Spurs and things can go either way based on their performances.

whooooaaaa there he is!

Scott Parker was in the frame, and as I understood it, interviewed for the Ipswich job. I was watching him interviewed on Sky Sports having just won and put a lot of criticism to bed, and he just came across really well. Thought I'd post that as I'd forgotten him as a candidate - more focussed on how personable he seems, as much as anything. Sorry I've offended you.

Yes of course I covet 'technical' sides, and managers, you're mad if you don't. The exemplar is Bielsa and Leeds - its just a dream to watch, and a dream to read about his coaching techniques, the shape, the system, the way he marks out the pitch into squares, and drills the players to move into different transitions. Have you seen them this season - its just a joy! ipswich are so far away from attracting his calibre as to be laughable... but looking for a manager with some of his attributes.. yeah I'm up for it? But that's just my view. Its a message board.

I know its not just me, but could you try to be a bit more civil? have a think before you press 'Add reply'. Life's too short.

Yes he was only Spurs academy coach at the time, so perhaps valid on the lack of experience card.

Wonder what the hell criteria and job definition Marcus uses?

I can think of a third, the one who led us to the Second Division title and a place in the inaugural Premier League. 2-1.

I was thinking of him as well but his connections were relatively brief, weren't they? Just worked as a scout, if I remember rightly.
