said he wanted a meeting with Evans few years ago and that we would have never have gone down if he listened to his advice. Also said how McGoldrick should have been given a new contract and that 3 players got sold when Hurst came in

McGoldrick was never going to sign a new contract!

Hmm.

That's all a bit revisionist from Burley.

Didz was never going to sign a new contract and whatever his advice would have been it's easy to say it would have worked a few years later.

Yeah he applied for the job when Hurst went didn’t he? Or was it when McCarthy went?

Think George said he spoke to McGoldrick at the time and that he would’ve been happy to stay.

I think Didz might have stayed, had we got a decent new manager in. Let's be honest, at the time whilst we were sad to see him go most of us felt we couldn't justify another hefty contract on a player who was never fit.

All the evidences suggests that's not the case, including the fact he left. I thought he wanted to move further north and closer to his family.

Especially when our manager was playing Mcgoldrick (when fit) on the wing. Nothing to see from GB here - in an ideal world, we would have retained McGoldrick, Webster & Waghorn, got in the right replacement for MM & now be in the Premier League.

i think the same went for Waggy and Garner for different reasons. It wasn't so much that they left, it was who Hurst replaced them with that was the problem.

Didz has said himself he wanted to stay.

He applied for it after Mick, with Terry Butcher as his assistant. I would’ve loved to see that happen but alas, we ended up with Paul bloody Hurst and now we are where we are.

We've all given the club a bit of a pillaring for numerous wrong turns over the last few years, but it's fairly safe to say that not offering Mcgoldrick a new contract was met with very little resistance at the time.

He was one of our highest earners and was playing every 1 in 3 games. It would have been a pretty bizarre business decision to offer him a new deal given the circumstances.

I also remember this being said along with he just wasn't offered a new contract with us!
