Eddie Jones 13:50 - Mar 22 with 1897 viewshype313

I know most will probably not be interested, but for the Rugby fans amongst us what are your thoughts? Should he be given another chance or should he be sacked?

Obviously the recent 6 nations has been a disaster, and he seems to be glued to the same players regardless of form, but his win percentage is 78% which is an amazing achievement.

Too early IMO.

They’ve been pretty poor and uncharacteristically directionless for the most part. But that’s more within the group as a whole, I think.

Problem England have is that there aren’t that many younger players getting games, which doesn’t bode well for the future and even the next World Cup if they’re relying on these older players. And not picking Simmonds even off the bench seems mental.

Simmonds ommision is absolutely madness, that's the one thing that irks me about Jones is his blind eye to the Exeter players, whilst picking Sarries players even if they are on form. I get that you want to have a core of players you trust, but it can bite you on the ar5e if things don't improve.

To be fair Ben Youngs is our best scrum half, no one else has really pushed him enough to displace him. Farrell won't get binned regardless of form, and we do miss Tuliagi who can really break a defence.

Not sure if it's Eddie Jones' fault but I thought England were the least entertaining/watchable side in the Six Nations.

You are probably right about Ben Youngs but I'm not convinced by Farrell

It would be interesting to see what Smith from Quins could do at 10

Indeed. I get that the Saracens players needed to be good to even play for them but think Exeter is a club that makes players even better. There was no problem with the training/coaching at Glasgow Warriors but Hogg and Johnny Gray definitely have stepped up a level since they’ve been at Exeter.

Seems madness to sideline so many of them especially when it was forward dynamism that was often lacking most of all.

Agree with Keno that there’s a bit of a muddle in midfield and very few challengers to the 9, 10 and 12 positions where I think other nations have overtaken them. Farrell maybe for his kicking and leadership but I doubt any of them would get into the other 6 nations teams on playing ability and form – and I’m including Italy in that too!

I would say stick with him. It's been a poor 6 nations but for me people have short memories, we won it last year and won the Autumn cup, not to mention being World Cup finalists prior to that.

I think we've not quite got over the defeat to S.A. so we need to sit down and work through that but Jones hasn't become a bad coach overnight. I actually think Farrell as captain is a bigger issue than Eddie Jones. Its also been a funny year, 7 of our squad have played no club rugby at Saracens and with the whole empty stadium vibe I would give him the benefit of the doubt to say lets hit reset and rebuild. Work to that end in 2021 and come out firing at the next 6 nations. If we're still sh1t, maybe that's the right time for a change which would give his replacement over a year to get things straight before the World Cup in France.

Watson didn't have a sniff as the two outhalves kept kicking. That must come down to Jones.

England normally use the Lions tour to play some of the up and coming players in test matches away from Twickenham think were due to go to the USA while the Lions play.

The penalties is what killed us we only conceded 2 more tries than last year but conceded double digit penalties in every game.

It was so stale a couple of phases and either box kick it away or give away a stupid penalty in the breakdown, list count of the amount of times we got down towards the 5m line only to give it away for a penalty and end up conceding points as we gave away penalty after penalty.

I don’t think it helped not having the first choice assistant to Eddie Jones not being able to take up the position due to Corona and not wanting to travel from Australia.

We have a real weakness in that position in this country.
There isn't anyone pushing Youngs for the shirt.

My opinion is that with all the money and resources available to England Rugby - especially in comparison to the other competitors- that they should win the 6 nations every year without fail. Anything else isn’t acceptable and someone should carry the can. Whether that someone is Eddie Jones is up for debate. I’m tempted to say he should go as he’s been far too stubborn with selections this year. 5th place is an absolute shambles

Simmons at 8 Marcus Smith at 10 and why has he kept Paolo Odogwu in the camp and has not given him a chance at all. Last week Slade got injured he called up Marchant and put him straight on the bench for Irelandgame. Time to go Eddie we are going backwards!

My own view is that Eddie should stay, I'm not sure we have anyone ready to replace him with at the moment. Rob Baxter is happpy at Exeter, Steve Borthwick is only in his first full year at Leicester, the RFU won't have Dean Richards, Richard Cockerill at Edinburgh is a good shout, as is John Mitchell who is already in the set up.

Our front row is always good. We sorely missed Launchbury, Lawes, & Underhill, behind them. But Sam Simmonds & Alex Dombrant are ready. We do have another nine, Danny Care. who is playing superbly at the moment, but Jones wont pick him as he's criticised Jones in the past. One player I would get rid of is Owen Farrell who just doesnt deserve his place. George Ford is more than good enough at 10, & in Slade & Daly at 12 & 13, thats a good midfield. We also have Marchant, Odogwu, Tuilagi, & others. We have plenty of wingers, but Full back is another problem. Daly is out of position at 15 & it shows most games. The only proper 15 is Mike Brown but again Mike has been critical. So we have to shoehorn Watson or Malins instead.

We are really struggling with nine's coming through though. Ben Youngs really is'nt good enough. We need someone way more dynamic. Combine this with Jones negative kicking tactics & you have answers. We have the players, plenty of them, but they need to play in their right positions & with a suitable way more expansive gameplan, althogh there are still times to keep it tight. We have to drop Farrell & Youngs who both contribute to the roadblock to the backline & we have to stop this saracens love in. It is killing us.

But 6 nations are cyclical things. We were rubbish in the one before the last World Cup yet played really well only losing in the final. Cant win everything all the time!

"win %" for a tier 1 rugby country is fairly meaningless as they play a fair few games that are near walk-overs, including Italy, who have lost their last 40 6 Nations games.
Jones did well with England up to the last World Cup, including the breath-taking win over New Zealand, but England have regressed since. He seems too loyal to certain players & some of his tactics seem highly questionable, especially kicking away possession too often. There would have been an excuse of England had let some of the senior players go after 2019 & were rebuilding, but that isn't happening.
