League 1 financial cap 10:31 - Apr 26 with 1222 viewsArrows86

I know alot are excited about new players and spending money but the league 1 salary and expenditure cap is incredibly low compared to championship. Town will basically bring in league 1 and two players who are incredibly cheap. There isn't allowed to be players for 2 million brought in, 1. Because of their cost 2. Bear in mind their salaries and expenses. I believe town cant exceed 2.5 million on all players salaries and expenses. The idea of the owners splashing alot on players is ludicrous. Cook and his team will have to work incredibly hard all over the summer to get good deals and cheap deals. your thoughts?

I think that cap has been kicked into touch. The new owners would not have been interested in buying us to only invest £3. 12s 6d in a new squad.

Yeh your thoughts and didn't mean to click that button. I'm just curious as to how much fans believe will be spent. I mean post covid there won't be players demanding and getting the thousands a week they're used to. If I was a player, and being hypothetical, would I come from a decent time to ipswich, considering how bad they've been. Personally I'd be throwing alot of the u23s in the team and tell them to impress me.im sure they'd work alot harder.

The salary cap was withdrawn in February, after the PFA complained, so we're free to bring in whoever we can afford with our squillions!

I'd love to see some quality players brought in and us be promoted. I dont blame cook or lambert for the bad performances. The players have been riding their luck and stayed in the team as town never brought in others.

....much cash spent in terms of transfer fees, unless PC desperately wants someone.

We'll see such a huge turnover of players that it will be difficult to put a figure on what additional we are actually spending, but I suspect the vast majority will be on wages rather than fees.

We have to remember that we are a mid table third division club in Suffolk, players won't be clamouring to join us.

I don´t think the salary and expenditure cap is a new thing?
Those who are thinking we are suddenly going to buy Premiership or top Championship players just because we have new owners will probably be disappointed. I´m not too worried, there are gems out there.
Another thing is that we have a huge squad with many players on good wages for League one, we could definitely use our money more effectively.
But yes, finding the right players for the right money is hard and the key this summer. Let´s just hope Cook, our new CEO and our new owners are up to the task.

The salary cap was indeed removed but aren’t we still subject to the SCMP which limits costs to 60% of turnover in L1.

Also limited to a squad of 20, aged over 21 but suspect the Players Union will look to overturn that as well as is a restriction likely to impact in their members. I

Turnover will be difficult next season as presumably it will be reduced by discounting to e I sting season ticket holders.

Presently the cap has been removed. Although you do still have a % of turnover limit.

Already weve seen some u23s let go. And with the wholesale changes being made it's not just going to be first team squad players leaving. There will be u23s. U18s etc too. Basically our actual wage bill will be reduced drastically. And this is why we may also see some players in contract having a 'mutual' parting of ways too. The more we can get off the squad list the better for us

The new owners have to get this club in a position where we have a proper football squad available. And make tough decisions on fringe players. We have over the years had to many sitting on the outside on nice wages but nowhere near good enough for a long spell in the first team.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.
