Do we bother moving Holy on even if it’s a loan 21:47 - Jul 27 with 1161 viewsHipsterectomy

Is it even worth getting a new back up? Do we have a competent third choice already at the club?

I think Holy will be perfectly fine as backup - as long as he doesn't have to come on.

We need considerably better than him if we are to be serious about promotion. Poor display tonight. I would prefer we replace him pdq.

I attend most home games, so I can be on the bench. Obv, a better option than Holy to be the Sub keeper...

He was very poor tonight and has not been overly impressive last season either. Some of that comes from the defence in front of him and if Edmondson is an organiser, hopefully that will help. However, after tonight, I think we could do with a better back-up.

I am sure your 3rd choice comment is tongue-in-cheek but don't ever assume that because you haven't seen a player, they must be better than a poor one.

I am sure there must be an experienced free agent or even a promising young keeper available somewhere who would happily be back up here.

Not sure the seriousness of your promotion ambitions is judged by your 2nd choice goalkeeper really.

I guess it depends a lot on whether the first choice is an ever-present or becomes unavailable long term for some reason. Perhaps another option would be available in those circumstances.

Ultimately at this level you cross your fingers and hope your first choice plays the vast majority of games. Posh's reserve keeper played 6 times last season, Hull's 8.

I just don't imagine a lot of teams in this division are going to be carrying a better 2nd choice than Holy and I'm not so sure it'll be so easy to find a genuinely really good L1 keeper to sit happily on our bench.

Not something worth chucking a lot of resources at imo.

I'd still happily bring in Westwood as cover... career winding down, get him working o n his coaching bags and maybe he'd be content to sit on the bench for a season before he hangs up the gloves?

I honestly think that at this level, we are not going to get a much better back up than Holy, I’m afraid. In saying that, if he wanted a move for first team football I’m sure he could be easily replaced.
